The VFX3D, EyeTrek-FMD700 and the i-glasses X2 claim to have 360k-pixel per eye.
As far as I know they've got 180k-pixel LCD's with some resolution-doubler technology.

Does anyone know how this works? Is there some micro-prism which switches rapidly or something?

Christoph

Go to http://www.ilixco.com/doubling.html and download the white paper. Everything explained. They are the parent of i-O Display BTW.

I'm not a high tech mind, but it would make sense that the only way to "double" fixed resolution would be to somehow flicker alternate images and that would result in more eye-strain. Regardless of how it works and what they say the "specs" are, there are only a few questions for consumers at the end of the day: What affordable/consumer level ($1500-$500) "appears" to have the best display, which is the most comfortable, and which has good support (not a discontinued device).... From what I've read it looks like the VFX3D is the only true all-in-one-even-close-to-consumer-price VR device so it deserves credit for that alone. The Olympus eye-trek has some great reviews compared to the Glasstron and IO Displays. But there is also an HMD by Canon. Cristoph, an article that reviewed./compared all of the consumer "personal display" & "VR" devices-- including the VFX3D, Olympus and possible combos-- i.e. various trackers would be great. Something that looked beyond the spec, and instead looked at the actual experience of using these gizmos.

The next issue of the Micro Display Report will focus on HMD's. I do not know how in depth he will hit all of the things you would like to see, but we shall see.
