It is possible to replace the optics in HMD systems with contact lenses? Could a microdisplay be viewed at close range (say 1 inch or less) using this technique? Granted it would probably be a very different shaped contact lense from a regular prescription, but it is possible? Ray |

Interesting idea. I don't see why not, since contacts can be made to correct both myopia (nearsightedness) and hyperopia (farsightedness) and even astigmia (irregular radial visual symmetry). However, to anyone not acclimated to contacts, it would give new meaning to the concept of EYESTRAIN! 8-) |

This is a good idea that probable will not work. In order to focus at 1" you need a contact with a power of -40D. Regular contacts only go to -20D. You would need a custom RGP lens. I don't know if it is possible to make one in this power |

Any idea how close a regular sighted person could focus with a -20D? Regards Ray |

Hi, I typed a "-" when it should have been"+". A +20 will focus at 5cm. Lloyd |

So, to confirm... a regular sighted person could wear a +20D lense and focus on an object at 5cm without eyestrain (ie, it would appear at a comfortable viewing distance?). Ray |

Hi, Have you guy's checked out http://www.contouroptics.com/info/features_benefits.shtml They claim thier lens's are anatomically correct to the shape of the eye and they can give you a 40% wider (distortion-free) field of view than regular flat lens's. Might be something to look into?!? I posted this in another topic in the product section in the thread talking about increasing the FOV. Great forum here! |
