Hi @ all I've a (probably stupid) question, but I'm not an optician: in some games I prefer to increase convergence, not too far but I prefer to see objects popping out from the monitor, not the standard "inside" view. I noticed an heavy eyestrain after some minutes playing with negative(?) convergence ... I'm going strabic or is perfectly normal? Again, in many games I tryied to change depth and backplane distance (thru hotkeys) but apparently I dont see any change (but I see changes on frustum, convergence, separation with other hotkeys) it's normal? tnx at all GioFX |

Hello. About eyestrain. Since you are looking at the screen but you're actually focusing little out from it or inside your brain gets little confused. That's why it occurs if I'm not misstaken. And,you are normal. I've noticed that if the gosting is bad it's easier to have little more eyestrain. About screendepth and backplane. I too have been trying to get info about that. When I had geforce2 it was no problem to change those. Now I can't,it really sucks!!! Since you can't do much tweaking. I'm trying to have more info about the issue though. If you find out any more about this problem. Let me know. Bye. Jesper. |

tnx Jesper btw (about useless depth/backplane hotkeys) I'm using a GeForce4 4400/128 and the only app working is the stereo test in the driver control panel GioFX |

This is definetly a late response :p... I prefer divergence for realism, and convergence to make things look like toys. I don't notice a difference between eye strain of divergence versus convergence, I do notice a bit of fatigue after a while of playing in both, but then again I am also near sited, so I don't normally focus far away from the monitor. One thing about divergence I notice is that it doesn't require a lot, its easy in some cases to over due it. What you should do is make sure that far objects are the same distance apart (in the left and right images) as the distance between the center of your eyes. For example my eyes are about 2.5 inchs apart, so if in a game if there is a building that is really far away, adjust the settings so the left and right images of the center of the building is about 2.4 inches apart on your monitor. This will make the game look realistic, but its also fun to play some games as if you are looking at toys, like playing quake3 in third person with the settings changed so the characters pop out of the screen like they are a action figure, thats pretty cool, but really that only works for 3rd-person games, for first person games you would want the realistic divergence instead of convergence, because if you use convergence the gun in the players hand gets really messed up. |
