Are you using a PC? I have an old copy of Premiere, but haven't had it installed for quite some time (so I can't check this)... I'm wondering if this might be a very simple thing to do with the Premiere AviSynth import filter:
http://www.ox.compsoc.net/~flend/avisynth/
The AviSynth script that combines a left and right video into a side-by-side pair looks like this:

DirectShowSource("left.avi")
LEFT=Crop(0,0,821,216)
DirectShowSource("right.avi")
RIGHT=Crop(0,0,821,216)
StackHorizontal(Left,Right)

If you can't get it to work with Premiere, you could always open the script in VirtualDub and go from there :-)

Wait a minute... I remember doing this in Premiere with a standard _transition_ filter! Darned if I can recall which one... "Stretch"? (Or one with the word "Stretch" in the title.) It's the one that stretches horizontally... you set it to 50% - Start, and 50% - End... bingo! It was simple, I think!

How about the "Cross Stretch" transition filter? I just found this old post of mine in the search engine of the 3D video Yahoo group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/3dtv/
"The new left and right video sequences are then imported into Premiere and welded together with the "Cross Stretch" transition filter. The "Start" and "End" settings in the filter are both set to "50%".
There's a toggle in the filter that can switch the video from parallel to crossed format with one click!

Hi,
With "cross-stetch" you need to Double the width
of the input videos, so that when they are squeezed and "cross-stretched", they end up as a normal sized pair.

Yup, that works! Change the "Video Settings" under "Project" to double the width (or half the height).
I was worried that this resizing and stretching would make an inferior image, but it looks identical when compared to the original, IMO.
Thanks, JB!
