This is a referred discussion from "HMD for the average man or woman": for BoPrey I wonder if you could refer me to the reviews you mentioned, because as far as I was aware no one actually has one in hand yet. The only information I have is straight from Nvidia. According to them, the FX can push the Doom III demo at 46.5 fps, while the 9700 performed at 33.1. I would hardly refer to an almost 50% increase in performance as marginal. On the other hand I would have to agree that the noise is unfortunate. In addition, the card not only uses your AGP slot, but the adjacent PCI slot. I guess if you don't have one free then you're out of luck. My main issue with the 9700 however is not it's speed. I still have a geforce 2 and it suits me just fine for now. Of course the main issue in this forum is simply that the catalyst drivers lack any kind of stereo support. Also I apologize for my patronizing comment, I'm just sarcastic 90% of the time (drives my wife nuts some times) so please don't take it seriously. I hope that as the thing gets released we can get some good numbers in this forum. | ||
