Would it work well for me to use a regular CRT projector with 15 pin (VGA) input with a high-ish refresh rate (120Hz) to do page flipped 3d with a product like the Elsa revelators or MSI Stereo2 page flipping glasses?

Yes, with following problem:
You will have very hi ghosting for green.

Solution:
Use 100 Hz only ...
Reduced the green and white color usage in the scenes ...
Test different projectors, maybe some of them will have faster green phosphor ...

Most CRT projectors are rather limited in terms of supported resolutions and refresh rates.
The good multisync ones are more expensive.

Try Barco Cine 8, Around $8500 (10/20/02)

Drop a line here about the quality and ghosting, I'm sure that is above and below format, avoid too many greens and work with high Hz.

Having used a CRT Projector with Revelators quite a bit, I can tell you that it works pretty nicely. Is it 100% perfect? No, but it is VERY VERY good, and its certainly the best your going to get wihtout haing to go to more elaborate systems. In my experience the 120hz refresh rate is not going to be necessary (or even possible on a lot of systems). I have found that even 85hz is fine, although 100hz is optimal. The image doesn't appear to blank out as fast as it does on a CRT monitor which, I think, reduces flicker at lower refresh rates. I also run at lower resolutions than most people insist one should (this will usually buy you considerable headroom in the refresh rate department).

Its really worth doing. Having used big screen TVs, and HMDs I feel like the CRT Projector provides the most immersive effect by far (virtual rollercoaster rides are a blast. I purchased the game Ultimate Ride just for 3D rides on the CRT).

I've tried a high-end NEC CRT with shutterglasses in above/below format.
Fine!

What about ghosting?, what is the maximum refresh rate on your NEC projector? and which resolution did you used for above below?.
