I am trying to figure out the best way to create 3d projections in a large club/venue that holds about 500-1000 people.

I have researched in depth the passive stereoscopic systems from cyviz, vrex, and christie digital. Although this is a solution it seems expensive and probably going to be outdated in the near future.

I also read about the shutter glasses. Is there any way I can project images and people can watch using shutter glasses?

I am basically doing VJ stuff where I project images and they react based on the music being played. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks so much

I've projected using a normal DLP projector and shutter glasses but only for about eight people at a time. The problem is with the difficulty of getting a large number of shutter glasses. It is expensive and complicated. It is hard to image a club environment where the audience will don shutter glasses. Good luck and keep us informed about how you manage.

Hi, if you want to present the 3d animation to so many people I would say the only solution is polarised glasses. this is less expensive, people will break the shutterglasses or steal them if the user enviroment isn't controled, wich seems hard to do in a dancing club.

what you will need to do is take a pc, install 3d drivers from nvidia or elsa, take winamp, install a visualisation plug-in that supports Direct3D or OpenGl. install the direct input plugin for winamp so that the mic input is used as audio source, connect the output of your audio source (turntable or watherver) to the mic input on your pc. and you are all set.

this way the visualisation/animation will be in stereoscopic 3d using the 3d drivers, and the animation will react to the music you play.

now all you have to do is build the projection system.

this setup works, I've done this before.

we can sell you a computer that supports dual output for dual projection.

we are beta testing the nvidia drivers.

have been running pc games and visualizers for over a year.

we just did a party with a 100" silver screen and dual lcd projectors and passive glasses for over 1000 people.

aquivalnt:

The company for witch I work can take care about complete supply of technology, making project for the projection installation, lighting calulation, software supply e.t.c ...
See www.depthq3d.com ....

The key thing is: Do you wnat to make
1) stereo-video projection or

2) model generated projection
(dynamick scene racting on content) ?

If you want to do 2) and your software is DirectX based you will need CyViz ... I do not know about any realy functional DirectX wrapers for rediraction into 2 outputs ...

If you want 2) and your application is OpenGL + you have sources, the modification to dual output is trivial ...

Maart,

Can you recommend any particular winamp plugin? I've used "Negative Equity" in stereo, and it works OK, but it's not *really* good.

we do not use the cyviz demux.

we output directly to dual projectors from the nvidia graphics card.

we can also sell you the front or rear projection screen, the glasses and the projectors mounted with polarizers.

we also have access to the most advanced visualizers like zuma and oozic reactor.

Maart,

I'll try Monkey. Has anyone tried Milkdrop (also by Ryan Geiss) in stereo? Like Monkey, it is hardware 3d accellerated, but I haven't been able to get any stereo from it (with shutterglasses - it actually has built-in options for anaglyph stereo).
