Has anyone experimented with projecting two completely different images to left and right eye? How well does the brain cope with two independent information streams? I guess after a while the brain would learn not to superimpose the images. Are there any adverse effects?

What would be the benefit?
Feels like a pointless Q, sorry.

Call it scientific curiousity. I was simply interested in how the brain copes with something like this. I wasn't really thinking applications but, since you ask, wearable computers with opaque monocular displays come to mind. I figured people on this forum might have some experience. I guess this could potentially also be used to double the effective resolution of a 2D display, although I admit that sounds a pretty oddball idea.
