Hi, I have read many threads on the subject but still cannot find information on what i am looking for. An affordable (sub-$1000) projection system that works with modern GeForce series (Non-Quadro) cards, that works well with stereoscopic gaming in Direct3D and OpenGL, using shutter glasses (preferrably Revelators) and nVidia Stereo Driver. Basically something that would project the 3d twin image that would be displayed on the CRT, onto a large screen made by the projector, with a relatively high refresh rate. Is this possible? if so, What is recomended? Will this be a better solution for immersive gaming than i-Glasses SVGA 3D + TrackerIR? Grateful for any help or advice, -- Shahzad Ali -- Glasgow -- UK |

RAG: NO. It is simply impossible for sub $1000 system. Some solution starts in low quality on $2000 (dual LCD with Quadro to get dual out). Most close is an InFocus X1 projector (working with all graphiccards in page flipping mode at 60 Hz) but the low refresh rate and low brightnes + 800x600 max res make in for limited use. And the price is about 1800$ anyway. (I am profesionaly working on this problematic) |

You could get a used CRT-projector on eBay. Problems: large, heavy, complicated setup, produces ghosting. Christoph |

Thank You both. Christoph, would any old crt projector enable stereo? I don't mind ghosting, or a complicated setup challenge - i'm guessing it comes from long time taken to tweaking the 3 colours? Also, for stereo, what sort of brightness should i be looking for? Does this fit the bill perhaps? http://www.screensuk.co.uk/elliespecs.shtml Looking forward to a reply, -- Shahzad Ali |

To watch stereo with projection system, it has to be a stereo projector, ordinary projectors don´t work. Unless you buy two and then a splitter for the signal, not cheap though. |

### ordinary projectors don´t work. No no no. Every CRT-projector works by default. However it should be a good multisync-model to achieve the resolution and refresh you are after. Even some standard DLP and LCD projectors work, but only at 60 Hz. And yes, problem with 3-tube-CRT's is the convergence of colors. You'll hardly see a perfectly adjusted CRT-projection anywhere, but it is possible and it's great when done right. I saw one recently in an IMAX-Dome/Planetarium. Wow - almost perfect black-level and convergence. My DLP is such a light-polution-facility in comparison. That's the reason they still use motion controlled CRT-projectors in the planetarium to project objects (planet, spaceship or whatever) onto a giant black night sky. With a DLP, LCD, D-ILA, LCoS or even film you would see a grey box around the projected object. Christoph |

Regarding the projector model you mentioned: Horizontal Scan : (31-38) KHz (auto lock) When it comes to stereo I would go for more. 80kHz and more would be cool - and expensive. Christoph |

According brightnes: I use 2500 ANSI DLP , forward projection .... During the stereo projection you will get back only about 25% from the original 2500 ANSI (0.5x05 = 0.25 0.5 lose to the flipping, 0.5 lose to LCD shuterglasses efficency). CRT in page flipped mode produce identical light intensity lose ... You can not do anything with this - reason of physic laws ... Personal experience - 2500 ANSI is the total minumum for not absolutly darkened room. The usualy CRT gives about 800 ANSI => you must use totaly dark room and the result will be still not perfect + you should youse small screen (2x2 m max or so) .... For comparison - on autosalons for 2.5x3 m screen in middle darkened condition we use 2x5000 ANSI (10 000 ANSI total) dual passive rpojection. What can help with brightnes a lot is a back projection on good screen material. Gives aprox +50% gain for both polarized and non polarized light ... |

Thank You all for your replies. I am disheartened to see that even a CRT projector will pose a problem at a low budget. I have therefore decided to purchase I-Glasses SVGA 3D from VRealities - it should arrive in 3-5 days. I will write a detailed review of the HMD in conjunction with my trusty TrackerIR for Gaming, which i hope will serve as guide for stereo gamers and prospective buyers of the technology. Many Thanks for everyone's Input. -- Shahzad Ali |

The price of Infocus X1 is now reduced to MSRP $999. M.H, I have ATI video card. I have i-o display shutter glasses. There is a page-flip mode. I dont know if it is 'hardware page-flip'. Are there 2 types ? 'hardware page-flip', 'software page-flip' ? Thanks |

Anonymous: Yes. If your graphic card is build with stereo s upport in mind, it have in drivers some method of hardware page flipping. Maybe it is done by software as well but you do not have to take care about it ... Software page flipping force cards to do things for witch they were not primary originaly build. The code watch timers and switchis the buffer adress in software. This could be coled software page flipping ... Both methods are de-facto doing the same, the result is the same, but it could be terminologicaly distinquised ... But it is only a academic discussion :-) |

I am trying to acheive 3d projection at home also. I'd rather use my LCD projector(s) than my CRT. I have Geforce2 dual display. I have two questions that I would appreciate help with: 1. Are there anaglyph drivers that I could try? eyeScream and Win3dx claim this capability but are history (and I don't have copies anymore). 2. Another possiblity is dual output with polarized filters. Two drivers seem to claim dual display with the steroscopic pair: more3d (at $1500 I'm not about to be getting that one), and win3dx (again, history). Does anybody know if win3dx will do this, and if so, are there old installs kicking around so that I could attempt dual output? If anyone can help, my email should be linked to my name above. Thanks |

Jim nvidia stereo drivers offer anaglyph 'out of the box'. Download the stereo drivers from nvidia. Install. Right click on desktop. Click properties. Click Advanced. Depending on driver versions you should see the 3d Stereo tab which will allow you to chose interlaced or anaglyph. Else 3d properties will be available from the side menu... Hope this helps. Check out the home brew 3d thread |

Thanks for the pointer...the ASUS driver that came in with the box (of my GeForce FX..not 2) did not have the 3d features. I've got NVIDIA's drivers now...even ftp'd them home from work...and will try tonight. Anaglyph kinda wanks, but It'll be fun to experiment. Jim |

Can anyone help me on this one…. I just Bought a X1 and trying to run 3D (interlace videos) with the virtual FX converter and shutter Glasses. I was told that all DLP projectors de-interlace the inputs. so will my 3D videos’ still work on the PJ…? Or is there any other way to Watch 3D Video? |
