Hello all, for a few years I have experienced 3d with my revelator and a 22" screen. now I want more. I want to buy a hmd. I browsed around for a bit and found out that the FoV is almost more important then resolution. I also learned most have a small FoV. Cy-visor and I-Glasses both have nice specs. FoV is bit small though. 26 degrees and 31 degrees, is that about the same as looking at a 20 inch monitor from about 70cm? At only 4 degrees difference between I-glasses and Cy-visor and no other noteworthy technical differences as far as I can see, is Cy-visor worth the extra cash? If so, Why? Is it possible to increase the FoV on either of the hmd's? Buy adding/replacing optics for example? If so, is there a tutorial available? Let's say I'm willing to spend up to $3000,- and I want something better then Cy-visor and I-Glasses. What should I get? I want to buy a headtracker some time after I buy the hmd. Should I take compatibity issues with into consideration when buying a hmd? Or can I just "glue on" any old head tracker? Thanks for reading that. Hope you can help me. | ||

Forgot a question. Am I right in thinking that a 640x480 52 degrees hmd is far more fun then a 800x600 26 degrees device? | ||

From what I've seen so far, nothing good yet in reach. I'm an engineer and a bit of a perfectionist, though. I'm using two side-by-side monitors and a mirrored stereoscope to make my own kind of cheap stationary HMD. But I really want the simplicity and headtracking of a good HMD. nvis.com makes what I want. Too bad it still costs about $20k. But display technology is growing by leaps and bounds right now. It's only as matter of time before a reasonably-priced good HMD appears on the market. | ||

IIS was s'pose to have a 1024x768x24 HMD with 3DOV tracking available by Christmas. Didn't happen. I E-mailed them a couple of times to get an ETA but have yet to recieve a response. So I bought a 1024x768 DLP projector instead. My friend's getting one as well and we're going to try the Nvidia dual output setup to see if we can get Stereo. If we can I'll probably get another projector. Right now I'm sitting 4 feet away from a 90" screen. Awesome!!!! If stereo works then I may try one of those small headtracker units. I'm pretty sure I would miss the 5.1 sound if I had an HMD but I looks like I'll never know. John "Doon" | ||

Visette-pro seems to be a good bet. 640x480 and 60 degrees FoV. At 3000 Euro's new that's rather pricy though. I think I'll go with I-glasses and try to mod the FoV. Thanks. | ||

What is this "IIS"? I am also willing on the range of 2000-3000EURO, and I have demands of at least 800x600 resolution, but very much preferably 1024x768 - the most useful gaming resolution. Field of view must be also important, but since I have only knowledge of 3D stereo, I am not sure how much difference does a HMD create. What about the head-trackers? | ||

Hello. This a link to the X-viewer which is hopefully coming out soon. http://www.iisvr.com/products_VR_main.html Although that is what they have said for some time now. I guess that they have at least a prototype by now. The interesting part what I can recall is the price, if I'm not misstaken it will be around or cheaper what you can get the I-glasses for today at http://www.vrealities.com/ With that in mind I can't see how they could have 1024x768 and I quote "Ultra wide field of view" unless science has taken a giant leap forward but this is ofcourse just a guessing game on my part. | ||

I bought me the I-glasses. I tried the old thing that was found in arcades in '95. that had 60FoV. I'd say FoV is king. I'll post my full thoughts on the i-glasses later. |
