Ok I tried searching fruitlessly for a solution on the web and on this forum:
heres the problem. i have a toshiba laptop with a nvidia geforce 2go. I have X3d - e-dimensional glasses. I want to activate the glasses from the laptop WITHOUT having to connect a second monitor to the external vga pass thru of the X3d glasses.

yes..i know the lcd of the laptop is not suitable for stereo viewing etc. but I want to know..is it possible to turn on the glasses without connecting a second monitor? Mayb theres some VGA termination plug that needs to be built?
any help appriciated!

thanks
Clyde

I'd expect the controller to work even without a monitor attached. So if you get your Notebook in dual (clone) graphics mode where the notebook screen and the VGA-out are active and in sync it may work.

thanks for replying christoph, but thats exactly the prob! that I Cant get the laptop to go into clode mode without a second monitor attached. is there a soft solution to turning clone mode on?
the graphics chip is Nvidia geforce 2go with 16mb ramdac.

secondly Im a bit puzzled (and admittedly a newbie at this) but Im thinking, if i connect a lcd projector to a stereo enabled computer (with shutter glases) and project with it, why would'nt the shutter glasses show me 3d on the projecion screen? I read here on the boards someone saying that its because both fields are simulataneously displayed. ...im confused here... because I have a Philips15inch lcd monitor (model 150 B2) and when i enable shutter glasses all works fine (its besides the point that i have to rotate the LCD monitor 90degrees so that polarization is proper and yes i know about using a halfwave retarder also) ..now back to the question, if the LCD monitor works fine with shutter glasses why wont a lcd projector in a similiar fashion? is it because by the time the light from the projector reaches the screen the delay will be so much that both fields will overlap?

Thanks for helping a newbie
Regards
Clyde

Are you really sure that the Phillips is showing proper 3D? Even something with bad ghosting like a white line on a black background? If so, I am very interested as up until now LCD monitors have not been fast enough to display good 3D without ghosting.

The issue is that for alternate-eye stereo to work properly, each pixel has to switch between its right-eye value and its left-eye value at the same rate as the shutter glasses. In the worst case (e.g. a white line on black) this can mean going from full on to full off in less than 20ms, and it really should be less than 10ms for reasonable performance.

LCD panels -- whether for monitors or projectors -- have been getting faster and faster, and I have been waiting for many years for them to get fast enough for decent 3D. So, as I said, please tell me if the performance of your LCD monitor is really acceptable.

TIA,
Alatar

I think some of the newer lcd's might actually be able to handle the refresh rates necessary. View sonic's new pro seies (aside their really expensive ones) are trying to close the gap between lcd and crts. your looking at 85 vert and 92 hor. granted i havent tried it. Btw, I am also an newbie and was wondering if somone could point out a good review site with some pricing on it and relative value analysis. Clyde, i imagine your going through alot of what i am right now and was hoping you could shed some light.

Hi sorry, havent logged on here for a while,
yes Im using the X3d converter(Pc gateway) and Yes the 3d effect is fine ..ok..*usable* on my Philips 15inch LCD monitor (model 150 B2).
I also tried it on an AOPEN el-cheapo Lcd monitor (17 inch).
Basically you use the cellophane trick..
Put a piece of cellophane on the entire LCD monitor to rotate the polarization if needed..note I said "if needed" as with my AOPEN monitor (Cheap Taiwan make) the polarization didnt need to be rotated,
heck to make life easier I was gonna suggest to E-Dimensional and X3D to just bundle a little cellophane "overlay" with each pair of glasses -meaning little cutouts of cellophane that you put in front of the glasses itself and not over the monitor, so people could slip it on if needed to work with their LCD monitors.
I have had no luck whatsover in trying to get my laptops LCd screen to work with interlace 3d this way.

Regards
Clyde

PS the 3D really works on the Phillips and Aopen, but there is a very very slight "Blur" which in my case is acceptable for viewing Movies.

Cellophane trick..in its truest sense was discovered by a scientist looking for half wave retarder material (Google 3d cellophane trick for answers).
Basically what the cellophne does is rotate the polarization of lcd panels (either in the shutter glasses or the lcd panel of your monitor itself)
The cheap cellophane you can get is from cigarette packet wrapping or event from flowershops. Try and see which kind works best.

Interesting. I wasn't aware that any of the LCD
screens could switch fast enough to do 3-D.
Just for fun, I tried 3-D on a 60" Sony Grand Wega...
it's LCD screen only partly kept up...patchy 3-D.

I know that some of the DLP equipment can switch
fast enough for good 3-D display.
