I watch dvd movies on my 21" monitor and play games like half life. I was wondering if enlargering lens would make the screen feel like your in a theatre? Would the resolution be effected watching a movie or would a better graphics card give you a clear picture with the lens? |

There are two ways of doing it. The first is to place a large, plastic, curved fresnel lens in front of the monitor. They are made for this application but you have to support them and they take up space in front of the monitor. The second method, always available on Ebay as 'plans', is to use a pair of fresnel lenses to project the monitor image onto a screen. Despite the seductive 'Home Theatre' image they show you at their auction page, the result would be unwatchable. Dark, fuzzy, poor contrast. Don't bother ! In a word, you cannot do what you suggest :-( Apart from that, your monitor can only display a limited number of pixels. |

> your monitor can only display a limited number of pixels IMHO there is no 21" monitor made that cannot display far more data than is contained in any television signal. A single NTSC broadcast channel is 6MHz wide, maximum monitor bandwidths are in the order of 100 - 150 MHz. I completely agree with the first part, though :-) |

There ARE good solutions for fresnel lenses. Check this out: http://www.lessgauss.com/magnifiersstd.html |

Before I had my projector I used to play my games and watch movies thru a Fresnel lens. You need to be fairly close to the lens though. One of the TV magnifier lenses would be best. Masking the screen so all you get thru the lens is the picture is another good idea. John |

Thanks everyone for the info. I was wondering if good quality lens, like the ones they sell at www.maxiaids.com are any good? Has anyone tried one? They have a frame on them and look to be fairly flat. With my 21in monitor would I need a 30 in one for maximium effect? |
