To quote from another post, you said regarding the X-Viewer... The core technology (ie displays, lens, electronics, tracker) is essentially complete. Is the lens optics that you have developed available for purchase seperately? What size micro display is it designed to work with? What kind of FOV does it give? Is it a lens solution, or a custom prism of some kind? Regards |

Ray, We have developed and patented a new multi element lens, which has several advantages, primarily cost and weight. They can be easily and rapidly customized to just about any FOV or eye relief depending on the display used. Every display has a certain limitation for FOV, ie the larger the display the larger the FOV. The max with a .44 inch display, for example is about 32 degrees, 40 with a .6 and 60 with a .96. Yes we have several customers that are developing programs around this lens alone. Typically they will end up buying the display electronics from us as well. Let me know if you need more info. Is the display FOV limitation you talk of based primarily on the arc-pixel interpretation of the user, or is it based on the lense configuration? If for example I had 0.59" displays and wanted a 60 degree FOV, would this still be possible? If not, could you explain why. Thanks |

The limitation is primarily one we place on ourselves in the design reviews we do. The bigger the FOV, the larger the physical size of the display/lens housing, our current focus is on small-portable display systems. Smaller lenses are also less expensive, which obviously helps with the overall cost of the HMD. Thx. Steve |

So what you are saying is that the new HMD you have been promising for years will have a small FOV? Like how small? |

Hi Steve, Thanks for your reply again. If I used a fibre-optic taper with a 0.59" display to give me a display of 1", would your existing optics allow me to view this display with a 60 degree FOV? Can you explain a bit more about the optical design? Thanks Ray |
