just wanted to get a discussion started for those who have seen the 3D version of polar express at an imax theatre. Saw it tonight and have to admit that the animation was excellent and the 3D effect was great. As with all imax 3D showings, I would suggest you arrive early and sit exactly in the middle and preferably on the higher rows. Some of the effects where so dramatic that it made me wonder if certain scenes were decided upon w/ 3D in mind. Wasn't too crowded here in Houston for the showing, probably due to the high ticket price for the imax version ($12). Hope they release the dvd in field seq. so i can watch it at home! you can check if its playing at an imax near you here: http://www.imax.com/ImaxWeb/polarList.do cbrack at myrealbox dot com |

I saw it also and loved it. I hope they release it on DVD in 3D. But, what type of 3D did they use to show the film. It wasn't anaglyph and I don't know enough about 3d to know. I also saw Santa vs. the Snowman at IMAX in 3D it was the same rendering as P.E. I have S vs. S on DVD and its really bad 3D because it anaglyph (too blurry and bad colors) The reason I want to know is I'm thinking about buying a 3D system. I want that same effect at home where the cow catcher on the front of the train comes right out of the screen at you! |

Me and my wife saw it on Dec. 27 in Dallas. It was wonderful-both technically and content-wise. With movies like this done in 3D, there WILL be more demand! It was shown in Passive 45/45 Polarized format. There was ghosting if you tilted your head too much (I did a few times just to see the effect). Very little headache. Would have been better, except my pair of cheap plastic glasses they gave out broke at the beginning of the movie, so I had to sit there with them kind of hanging on 1 ear. I heartily recommend it-its rarely "in-your-face" overdone, mainly cuz of the conversion process. (3D live mocap driving rendering of 3D modeling and artwork). Scott |

Thanks for the 3D info Scott. Sorry about your glasses :-(. I hope they bring it back next year so I can take the wife and kids. Geoff skgapge |

I still have moments imagining that Berkshire locomotive thundering toward my head... and stopping, just before the tip of the cow catcher touches my nose... wow!! And, yes... The Polar Express will be released on DVD in November. I haven't heard if it will be 3D, or not. But, my question is.... Has anyone used or purchased the IMAX 3D video box advertised on this (and other) web sites? http://www.razor3donline.com/dvdul3dex.html or, here... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=617&item=6365058102&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW How close to the "original" IMAX 3D movie effects does this system duplicate? Several original IMAX 3D movies have been transferred to DVD's, and are included, for $74.95. How well does this set top box with wireless glasses compare to the actual IMAX movie theater presentation? What is the "best" 3D movie viewer, presently available (if one exits, that is). Or, is the technology still "developing"... and still needs improving. What 3D system do YOU use... and, how do you like it? Would you buy the same thing again, or another brand? Thanks for any information you may have. |

no, sorry not yet, none of the home 3d systems give you the pop out of the screen 3d that you talk about. why? the sharpness of the projection of the IMAX system is what makes there 3d experience so stunning. it will some time until we can get that kind of 3d at home. the new conversion of STAR WARS movies starting in 2007 should kick start better 3d projection at your local movie theater.only then will home 3d get better and cheaper. |
