Hi, I've just discovered this nice website, and thought i'd introduce myself and ask a question.. My name is Stan, and i'm from Holland/the Netherlands. I'm a long time 3D/VR programming enthousiast, and am finally determined to take the plunge of leaving the monitor and going stereoscopic and making/solderironing my own VR-helmet device (i've wanted to do that for a very long time, but never did because of costs and lack of information), along with building a 2 computer or dual/quad processor system to do some nice experimenting. (and never leave the house again, etc.) With my search of existing Hmd's i'm still shocked of their prices, even of older equipment, along with existing 3D Hmd's not having very easy to use/oldfashioned or convert types of connections for me to use. So i saw cheaper 2D devices, with a videoconnection only, but 2 LCD-screens. I'm not interested in headtracking or other functions, just purely creating a stereoscopic device. My plan so far, is to get two second hand/cheap 2D headsets, weld them into one, with a videoconnection for each screen, and using further convertors to transfer my two svga signals. I'm aware the LCD resolutions of these devices is pretty low. So my question..is this a very bad idea? has this been done before? .. or does any of you have a much better idea for me to build a very basic 3D hmd. Some of my existing 3D games and experiments can be found here.: http://www.geocities.com/tasteofinsanity81/stanspage Thanks for any suggestions, and regards Stan |
