Hi, I bought NuView about in Jul 2003. I shot some video with that, but I was unable to view that in my laptop. Now I have a desktop with nVidia card. I downloaded the video using firewire card. Its resolution is 720 x 480. I can directly load the file in Stereoscopic Player it looks like it is fine with 3d effect. I tried to deinterlace using VirtualDub, 'discard field 1' for left and 'discard field 2' for right. When I did that, the resulting resolution was 720 x 240 (losing have the vertical lines). I would like to know the steps to create .wmv or .mpg file using NuView .avi file without losing detail. Thanks, SK |

You DON'T de-interlace it like you might normally. You need to separate the fields and edit/save separately. There is a specific Vdub 3rd party plugin for doing just that. Then, you would convert to WMV/MPG in one of a number of methods--2xWide SideBySide (Cross-eyed usually preferred), Same but w/HorizSqueeze,Separate Files, Dual Muxed Streams, Anaglyph, etc. You could also leave them as field interlaced, but WMV makes it very difficult to work with interlaced footage and still maintain the interlacing. MPEG is OK with this though. Note: Separating fields or doing the deinterlace style you did -IS- correct. You would have 720x240, because that's all that each -FIELD- records. You're not losing MORE vertical resolution, you've already lost it by using the NuView (field interlacing) method. Material can still look quite good though, even with the reduced vertical resolution. Note Also: Your Laptop has an LCD screen, which is inherently a PROGRESSIVE display, not intlerlaced. Interlaced material will often (if not always) look incorrect on progressive displays, without incorporating additional deinterlacing algorithms in the playback software (usually done by Stereoscopic Player, and/or other DVD playback software). G. Burrell (sp?) has old webpage with info on how to deal with this kind of material. I would also look at M. Husak's and PKK's pages for good tips on working w/Virtualdub. HTH, Scott |
