I am getting a HMD which has two vga inputs - one for each eye (640 x 480 - 60hz each). I would like to show two full streams of rendered video which are synchronized. Is there a way to play two streams of synchronized (preferably 60 frame per second progressive scan video but if that is not possible then 30 fps interlaced NTSC video) video (either MPEG2 compressed or some other method ?) through dual video cards in a Win 2000 system? Anyone have any experience with this? |

If you are interlacing the two images anyways, you may only need one of the video sources. What kind of HMD are you using? Some HMD support all the standard shutterglass modes (page-flipping, interlace, sync doubleing, etc.) Some software can drive multiple video cards for stereo natively, but this isn't usually the case. VRCaddyMe may be able to do this, that is, if Winx3D supports multiple display adapters (Which they are planning to add eventually). More info on the HMD/Video adapters would be helpful in figuring out a solution. -Eric L |

The solution for your problem is easy: Win98 or Win2k + 2 graphic card. Wideo coded in left-right format, it means two images 640x480 combained to 1280x480 movie. If you will play it "full double screen" you will get sync source for both HMD. I do not suggest you to use this technique. Input from one graphic card based on HW page flipping or interlaced mode will be more easy. For example VFX3D HMD accept bot this modes. O.K. |
