This "Glass" is a Liquid Crystal Display panel. it is two sheets of glass, with microscopic crystaline suspension between the plates. When current is passed through the fluid, they turn opaque.

This is the same stuff as used in a watch, or a gameboy screen (old gameboy)

If you find a Large alphanumeric LCD, and the numbers are big enough, you can turn them into shutterglasses, but the holes can only be where the LCD becomes opaque (dark).

Try Radio Shack. OR Grainger. The best lenses are in electronic welding goggles (which use fully opaque LCD glass to darken the view and protect the welder's eyes). These panels are usually quite large, but the things can be expensive ($50 US for a low-end electronic welding visor)
