The idea is to make an HMD that uses either the Sony Glasstron, the DAEYANG E&C Cy-Visor, or the Olympus Eye-trek. But how would you get a flexible affordable tracking system?-- one that you could easily get to work on most sims/games. Anybody out there have any input on disadvantages of this idea, plese lemme know. Thanks. Neil |

It's already been done with the Intersense Intertax 2. If you go to their website at http://www.isense.com you will see their tracker attached to the CyVisor and reference to the Eye-trek. There is a video on one of the pages that talks about how affordable it is at about $900 US (I'm from Canada and that translates to about a zillion Canadian dollars [commonly referred to as loonies for a reason that only Canadians will get] - for only the tracker!!!). Makes the all in one VFX3D seem relatively cheap considering that I have an old VFX1 and so could probably(?) still qualify for the $300US (there's that conversion again) trade-in. |

Yeah, because VR flopped in the early 90s knowbody wants to invest in it-- which means production runs are low and prices are high...I mean the PS2 is $300-- it's a bit more complex I imagine than any single part of HMD tech or all combined.....IT'S ALL ABOUT PRICE NOW. |

I'd argue with that. There's an awful lot to an HMD, just think about it. The PS2 incorporates only incremental improvements on existing technologies. More importantly, the PS2 can be sold as a LOSS LEADER, meaning they sell the machine at a loss, but make up for it many times over through expensive and extensive software sales. Sony can afford to do that. |

>>>I mean the PS2 is $300-- it's a bit more complex I imagine than any single part of HMD tech or all combined..... If the PS2 had a single LCD-display the price would be $1300,- and a HMD needs even two displays. >>>IT'S ALL ABOUT PRICE NOW. It's about microdisplay and optics technology. I never tried a $100,000 HMD, but I guess it still suckz compared to a decent $1,000 monitor. Christoph |

Ya the display and the optics are the cost, and mabye the tracker; we still are paying for r&d. The rest of the HMD system has been around for years. What we need is a 120 degree ++ FOV stereo HMD but that might cost 2 or 3 $$.. |
