Relative to some of those 3-D feature titles listed on this site: Rock and Roll Hotel: This feature was started in 1982-83 and featured Dick Shawn. The director was Russell Mulcahey, however, it never received completion funds and was shelved. The Starlets: Not listed. An X-Rated 3-D title, shot by one of the "players" on the 3-D side of the film business. Has not been seen since its release in the 70's-80's. Featured Desiree Costeau, one of the hottest porn stars of the era. ShowBoat: Was never shot in 3-D Them: rumored to have been filmed in 3-D and WarnerColor. Released flat and in B&W because Jack Warner thought the giant ants looked fake in 3-D. Rumored to have left and right eye prints released seperately during initial release. Assylum of the Insane: Just showed up in anaglyph on a Spook Show (or something like that) DVD with glasses included. The Command: Warner first Scope title, rumors have been circulating for years that reel 1 exists in a 3-D version. The rest, not so sure. This was supposed to be a widescreen 3-D followup to "Charge at Feather River." "Sexcalibur" Released very briefly in an anaglyph 3-D video cassette. The less said the better. May be the worst 3-D film of all time. |

In response to Sexcalibur being the worst 3D movie of all time: I may have been cornered into making a bad movie, but it did have (when projected in Stereovision ot dual projector) great 3D! It was released theatrically as SEX IN 3D and looked amazing in a San Francisco theatre I saw it at (as well as when screened at the Tiffany Theatre in LA and at MGM for friends and like 500 people I did not know- they applauded the first reel!?!?!). It was shot using dual 35mm system built by Mort Heilig, the same system he used for his "sensoramma" arcade machines. This Adult Moviewas originally only supposed to be a 30 minute short consisting of 3 9 minute loops and a linking device. It was to be called BEDTIME STORIES in 3D, it was expanded "under duress" to say the least. The first 10 minutes or so are still amazing looking (when properly projected). It is a VERY BAD film I can not argue that, budget constraints and the fact that I was only given one extra day to turn 3 unrelated 3D loops into a feature called SEXCALIBUR. (after screening daileysof the demon knight scene at the Tiffany at midnight I joked in front of investors that it looked like we were making "sexcalibur"). Unfortunately they liked the idea. and I needed the money. The anaglyph 3d video transfer tests looked very good (they were done by 3D TV - Dan Simms,) but the final transfer was botched by other individuals hired by ESSEX/SELECT VIDEO and when the copies for VHS distribution were done the guy doing the dubbing actually thought he needed to color corect the red and green destroying what was ok at that point. The film was shot dual 35, we used wide lenses and fuji stock, and when projected properly it looked incredible. as for the video release, the box was great (lenticular 3D cover, somehow I still have one) and we were on the top of billboards video charts the week released.
