I was wondering if anyone has used a VFX1 with the special microscope lenses that Mindflux sells? I've seen one review and it said that the quality was fair superior and that small text could be read with the Headset. They sell for about 300 dollars and I want to know if its worth the trouble.

I can't see why this would matter. I don't care how good you magnify 180,000 px it still looks like 180,000 px.

They're sold by Mindflux. They say theyre for increased clarity. I guess they could give up FOV for increased clarity. Its not unheard of.

I don't know what Mindflux's optics are like, but I CAN tell you that the VF1 CAN be improved dramitically by replacing the optics.

It WILL allow you to read text - but not real small text. Follow this link to a post I made here a long time ago regarding this....

I'm sorry Vr junkie, but I'm an Idiot! :)

Could you post a very specific lens that I could use to improve the VFX1?

And of course where to get it?

Though it sounds intriguing, you mentioned that the one u used is no longer availabe and gave 4 different possibles?
I have no idea about lenses and stuff, and I don;t want to spend 500 buck trying to figure out which one is going o work, so....

Your helpd would be much apreciated! :)

Marvio,

These are the ones I used. They are no longer made - but there is old/used ones available. I just talked to Don... he has 3 on hand right now. He says he will sell a pair for 70 each/140 total.

What:
26mm Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl
- Older style without eyecup
Cost:
140 (for 2)
Where:
Teletrade/Don Rothman
(818) 501-6920
5230 Kester Ave #1
Van Nuys, CA 91411

I'm waiting for mellott124 to respond with what he got. But until he actually gets to try them they are an unknown. I can vouch for the 26mm Meade super plossls.

Just to clarify, the lens that we sell are Olympus microscope lenses with the fittings slightly ground to fit the VFX1. They are clearer because they do not get scratched easily and are glass (vs plastic). I would not think they would change FOV.

You could certainly do it yourselves if you have access to a lathe, but we managed to find someone to do it for us. The actual lens are quite expensive and that is the whole cost actually.

Another client converged the lens slightly (rather than have them parallel) which he thought made a big difference.

Thanks man!

I'll give him a call. Any help is welcome on the aging VFX1. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great unit.

Cool, thanks again...

Rob,

It might... Not sure until someone/we try a few things:

Does your optics look like they are removeable? If so measure the inside diameter of the optics tube and post back.

I will then compare to my optics - if they look like they would fit - I'd say it will make an improvement.

I would then be willing to send you my optics for testing, or you could send me your unit, and I could test a variety of optics in the VFX3D...

VRJunkie-

I've got the series 4000 optics and put them in my VFX1. They are out of focus and very uncomfortable to wear because they stick out too far. I've removed the lower chrome barrel. Is there something I'm missing. Another Mod?? It seems if I shaved the barrel I could get it into focus, but the optics dont look that much better.
Maybe you can help.

Thanks

Mellott124,

Yes you have to remove the lower barrel... have you read the link I posted above in the earlier post?

You also have to have the EXACT older style 26mm Meade 4000 optics I spoke of - they do not come with an eyecup. Are these what you got?

If so, you should NOT have to cut/file anything once you remove the lower chrome barrel. Just wrap a few revolutions of black electrical tape, slide focus, tighten your allen set screws - and you should be good to go! This mod can't increase resolution - but it will make things a lot clearer and get rid of those weird internal reflections and color halo/ghosting.

If you have more specific questions - just let me know.

BTW Where did you get them, and how much (if you don't mind)?

I got them working and the difference is quite nice. Everything is more clear and there is no reflections or glare like the orginal ones. I have to modify mine slightly though. My eyepieces are supposed to be the old japan series 4000 but with the eyecups. I had to remove the chrome barrel of course. I also had to cut the aluminum retaining piece that holds in the lenses, so that it didnt extrude beyond the casing of the eyepiece. This gave me perfect focus and more comfort in wearing the headset.
The headset was still uncomfortable to wear, so I also cut part of the casing of the eyepiece. The end of the eyepiece that is grooved for the eyecups were cut off. After this the new lenses worked perfect and were also comfortable to wear.

VRjunkie-
I got my eyepieces off of ebay for about 80 a pair.

Thanks

Kevin,

Glad you got them working! 80 for all new premium glass optics is a GREAT deal. And it sounds like you got the same visual results I did - just took a little more work to get there!

I suspected a lot more lenses would work but will take expertise and tools that a lot of people do not posses.
