I'm trying to capture stereo images with the nVIDIA stereo drivers, but the images are of poor quality because of them being very dark images (I've already tried to change the compression settings in the registry). The images that are captured are not using the gamma correction I have choosen (I've tried setting it in various ways, from inside the driver to inside the game, including in powerstrip), does any one know how to control the gamma of a screen capture? |

Well... I sort of figured something out. There is a setting in Quake 3s config file something about ignoring hardware gamma, when I enabled it, the images were not so dark. I still cant control the gamma of the images before they are captured, but at least they are not as dark and there is a lot less compression artifacts from quantization. I also enabled anti-aliasing, and trilinear mip mapping, to soften the images, as jpegs dont like sharp edges. But this is satisfactory. |

Try the ingame hotkeys for gamma adjustment. In stereo mode the images are dimmer then when viewing the pair in mono mode. Brightness option i Q3? (not the same as gamma) Or try Photoshop afterwards, that's what its for. |

> Try the ingame hotkeys for gamma adjustment. I've tried every thing that I know of, I've tried the Ctrl-G and Alt-G hot keys, and I've tried doing it from nVidia Stereo Properties panel (in the NVIDIA GeForce 256 Properites) and the nVidia Color Correction Panel, the Quake Brightness control, and finally in PowerStrip. I've tried all of those and the screenshot images did not appear to have changed at all. > In stereo mode the images are dimmer then when viewing the pair in mono mode. Yes, also dimmer when you wear the shutter glasses, but even in mono mode they are very dark to look at. > Or try Photoshop afterwards, that's what its for. That doesn't help, the problem is not afterwards its before the image is captured. In the afterwards the image was so dark that when you brightened or adjusted the gamma of the image you could see the compression artifacts from the jpeg more (even at the highest quality jpeg compression that the nVidia driver saves to), plus there is quantization where you can actually see gradients instead of being smooth transition from diffrent colors. The trick I posted in my second post (in the q3config.cfg setting "r_ignorehwgamma" to 1), does help quite a bit, but it still doesnt give me control over gamma, it just doesnt appear as dark (And as a result compression and quantizing artifacts are less). When I get a chance I will post before and after shots. There is probably one thing I have not tried and that is disabling "r_ext_gamma_control". |

Stereodudes of the World you have one more member... ME! I just bought an Elsa Revelator (Wired) and almost EVERYTHING seem to work just fine! My setup is - Duron 750 - Shamrock 505D Monitor - 3D Blaster GeForce3 Ti 200 - SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 - Windows Me Here are some facts about the Glasses a) Things get pretty dark on 3D (I am waiting for sugestions on motitor adjustments in order to compensate the darkening). Actually the glasses are a bit dark even when they are off plug. The have a soft green color is this natural or is there a protective sticker on them? Should the be COMPLETELY transparent? b) While playing Operation Flashpoint I could't see anything (too meesy) but then I pressed Ctrl+F2 (suggested settings) and WHOOO! The best 3D experience ever! After playing for a while I discovered another flaw. Some times the shutter glasses would be open the same time! It seemed like a flash from a thunder or something (due to the sudent light that would come to my eyes from both open shutters). I deactivated the hardware acceleration switch because someone wrote that SB live drives and nvidia stereo drivers don't go well together and now it seems to work just fine (though it flashed 1 or 2 more time in the next 5 minutes compared to 10 time in a minute it was before) but I havened tested thoughly wet. c) The 3D Max pics I made and saw with stereo viewer were pretty cool but can I make some videos too? How could that be possible? Please send comments-answers! Your new friend Thank you for your time! |

a) for the monitor: I guess even Shamrock monitors have buttons or dials for contrast and brightness ;-)? You may also try slightly higher gamma values in the NVidia display control panel. for the glasses: they can't be 100% transparent, since they have polarizing filters built in, which means that they will pass only about half of the light even when transparent. b) The flashing is a well-known plague, resulting from the stereo driver's desgin. A flash every few minutes is what I'm also seeing with my Revelators. If possible, you might try a higher refresh rate and check whether it helps. |
