I cant get my stereo to work in my Asus V8440.

Everything worked perfect on my V7100 the V7100 worked with 150Hz all resolutions but with the V8440:

The Asus drivers go out of refresh rate range on my monitor, tried all the settings, 8440 goes out of range even at 100Hz all resolutions

The Nvidia drivers lock up my OpenGL games

I tried mix n match on Asus, Nvidia, and both stereo drivers but nothing works on OpenGL, the Nvidia D3d test screen works fine and some D3d games work okay

thanks for any ideas

Join the Club:-)
I have the same probs, have tried both a PNT GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB and an ABIT GeForce4 4200 64MB. I've found if you disable GLextensions in some games it works , like Jedi Outcast but at the cost of performance. Someone has posted that detonator drivers ver 29.80 fixed this so they could use GLextensions in Jedi so it may be worth a go for you. I'm trying this tonight so i'll post what i find

Thanks for the input, I am still checking on this thread

I have tried 29.80 Det/Stereo from guru3d with no success, I'll have to try disabling GL extensions.

thanks again

I've been trying to get nvidia's stereo drivers to work ALL DAY. I have win 2000 with GeForce 4 Ti 4600, on dual Xeon processors. At first I tried the downloads from the NVidia site, but the three games I tried (Alice, Unreal Tournament, and Serious Sam) all froze up either right away or after a minute or so, causing a "program error."

So I downloaded the newest detonator (30.30) and streo (29.80) drivers, and still same thing. Even the "stereo test" froze after a little while.

This is really annoying. Plus, it doesn't seem to save my stereo settings when I click save. And to get the save button from being greyed out, I have to move the monitor size slider immediately before I want to save.

HELP!

This is just me, I'm getting some Edimensionals this weekend, but I've had the kind of issues you're having with my GeForce 440

Step 1: lower your monitor refresh rate to 60 mhz (3D will be HORID, but you have to do this to make sure that what is happening is not your monitor's refresh limit)

Step 2: Activate stereo while in gameplay rather than having it active by default. I've heard that a lot of games crash if the stereo is set ahead of time.

Step 3: Check for an IRQ conflict. GeForce 440's at least are very susceptable to IRQ cons, a conflict is really helpful in that it just locks everything up =(

What sort of IRQ conflict would there be? Would the device manager tell me there's a conflict, or would the conflict only occur when I'm playing a game? So how exactly do I go about fixing the conflict?

Thanks,
Ray

OK, IRQ conflicts are tricky things ^_^

first off: Open START->RUN and type in "msinfo32" and hit ok (or run, whatever that button is)

Here you should be able to check the IRQs and what's used for what.

To be honest, one sure way to reset the IRQ issue is to remove the other cards from your system one at a time (with system off) and boot up after each is removed. Eventually you will find the one that is causing the conflict.

Just out of curiousity what model is your monitor? As that could have a baring on this.

Still trying.

No IRQ sharing going on here.

29.42 Det and 29.80 Stereo from guru3d does good stereo for Direct3D.

OpenGL works fine until somthing happens during the game like an explosion in Quake 2 or somthing.

Wish I still had my good old GeForce2, although wondering around in an empty Quake2 maze at 1600X1200 stereo with a fluid frame rate was nice

First a question that I asked on a guru3D.com forum, and got not one single positive reply:

Does anybody even know of anyone that is running NVidia's stereo drivers with a GeForce Ti 4600 on Win2K and actually having them work? Without crashing? Anyone at all?

And, do you think NVidia knows or even cares? They seem impossible to contact unless you know someone personally. Because I would just like to know from them if these problems are normal... they say the card is supported, but that doesn't mean much.

What are your thoughts?

I've an Athlon XP 2000+ with Win2K Pro and a GeForce4 Ti4600 from Asus (drivers from nVidia). After a long swim into problems, it's now working fine !

I've totally uninstalled the video drivers from Asus, and installed the last ones from nVidia. After, I've installed a program that I found on www.guru3d.com that change the refresh rate winthin games (I don't remember the program name, I'm not at home for now). This program has settings to set the refresh rate separately for every screen resolution, start on boot, etc.

Now, when I boot my computer, this program starts and all is working fine ! The only remaining problem is that the shortcut keys are not working within games ... but stereo still very nice, playing at 100Hz games like Return To Castle Wolfenstein or Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor, etc...

Ti 4600 Win2K and 30.82 NVidea drivers work OK but!

1: I had to do a complete reinstall of Win2K from scratch.

2: Install SP2, don't install SP3 it does not work properly with 30.82 drivers.

3: Ensure that no game you want to play in 3D assigns hot keys to Ctrl+F3 F4 F5 or F6.

4: Disabling "Enable In-Game Configuration" does not seem to work fully, I had to remove the default stereo game configuration settings (for the games I want to play in stereo), from the Registry. These settings gave me all sorts of problems from extremely wide stereo separation to screen corruption to lockups.

5: Enable stereo with Ctrl+T and not auto.

6: Run nvratefix to get the games to run above 60Hz refresh rate.

7: Have a long hot bath, cross and uncross fingers 5 times.

Who said it was going to be easy.

MP, don't say that nasty stuff ;)

I just (as in Sunday) reinstalled, fresh w/HD format, my Win2K Pro and all of the software, drivers, settings, blah, blah, blah... Was able to do it in about 10 hours, but I don't want to do it for a long while (since this reinstall is only 6 weeks after the previous).

I installed SP3. Now you tell me! Now what?

I'm not using my Eye3D Premium glasses for gaming, but for image and anim viewing. Where do I find a viewer for these under these circumstances (since one didn't come with the glsses - except for 95/98/ME)?

I figured it would be "learning experience".

Hi Robert

I know it only says 95/98/ME on the CD but VR show should be OK in Windows 2000.

I don't know how bad things are but you could also try the nVidia Stereo Viewer that you get when you install the drivers. This can be found as Winnt/system32/nvstview.exe.

Have you tried the 30.87 drivers, these had not been released when I loaded SP3 so they may work with it?

Not wanting to upset you any more than necessary but 30.87 drivers with SP2 works very well.

Mick

Sorry about the delay - been busy lately.

Got VRShow etc to work in W2K. I donot like their stereo editor software, 3D Maker. I mean, it works great, but could we please move into the 21st century and update the program to support long filenames - 8.3 is dead. DEAD, I TELLYA! ;)

As for the nVidia stereo viewer, it only supports SyncDoubling and I haven't been able to get that to work at all (not even setting 640x480 @ 60Hz where my monitor supports 640x480 @ 128Hz). All I get is vertical out-of-synch scroll.

I could uninstall SP3 as the backup was performed, but don't know if I can trust the stability afterwards. :(

Any one tried 43.45 Asus drivers yet?

I've installed 43.45 Nvidia/43.03 Stereo Guru 3d and they work okay on Win 2k, SP 2, Intel 850, V8440, low refresh-rate limit though

I'm gonna try the Asus 43.45

Why has the ASUS driver the same release no. as the current nVidia reference driver?
There are just a few days between them.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is a carbon copy of the nVidia reference driver. Maybe they found the time to replace the nVidia logo with the ASUS logo. Big deal.

Please keep us posted on your experiences with it.

Win98SE DirectX 8.1 and Win2000Pro SP 2 DirectX 9.0
