Hi,

I'm trying to get my 3d glasses working, I don't want to use the Asus drivers that come with the card as they aren't very good.

I'm using the Nvidia drivers 29.42 and Stereo drivers 23.11, when I boot up the glasses have 1 back lense and one clear :(

With the Asus drivers loaded they seem to kinda work but I really want to use the Nvidia drivers as the game support seems much better..

Thanks

Jo

I just ordered the V8420 myself, so I'll see to that when it arrives.

So you both have the Deluxe version and used the on-board glasses-connector?

You used the standard (Revelator) setting of the nVidia driver or the ASUS-setting (Registry: StereoViewerType=2) also?

Currently I have two older ASUS Deluxe boards. There the glasses-connector just syncs to the VSync signal. The glasses are always on, no matter if there's a stereo-driver running or not.

You said you have one black lens. Question: is the lens black all the time or is the screen-intervall for one eye black? If you look away from the screen do you see normal flicker on both eyes or is one eye constantly darker than the other?

Another thing. The game support from nVidia isn't exactly better. The difference is that nVidia comes with a lot of presets for games, but has very poor possibilities for the user to do settings manually.

With ASUS it's the other way around. It comes with very few presets, but the user has all the hotkeys and the on-screen stereo diagram to do manual settings.

If you have the know-how to get the settings right the ASUS approach is more flexible and rewarding.

I must admit though that the nVidia stereo seems somewhat more stable and compatible than ASUS.

ASUS on the other hand has rock-solid page-flipping while nVidia is troubled by slip-ups here.

On the V3800 Deluxe and the V6600 Deluxe the on-board glasses controller was always active.

This seems to have changed with the V8420 Deluxe.
Now the controller is only active when the ASUS driver is installed. Otherwise one LCD panel remains closed, the other open. This prevents the ASUS controller to be used with third party drivers.

As far as I know the ASUS-trigger consists of a special timing of the Video signal. There's an interlace-style one-line time-gap between frames.

The only chance to get the 8420 controller working with the nVidia drivers should be to use the ASUS-mode. Execute regedit.exe, search for StereoViewerType and set it to '2'.

Be warned, this ASUS mode of the nVidia driver never worked for me on any ASUS deluxe board under any operating system.

I never found a guy who got this working. I was in contact with the nVidia developers over a longer period and they insisted that it should work, while I insisted that it doesn't work.

There should be configurations which do work, just give it a try. The worst thing which may happen is a blue screen.

Not really, here's what I found for the nVidia driver:

Athlon, V8460, Win98, Detonator 30.82, Stereo Driver30.82, StereoViewerType 1 or 2 : no problems

P4, V8420deluxe, Win98, Detonator 30.82, Stereo 30.82, StereoViewerType 1: no problems, Type 2: it works, but sometimes in certain modes the image is totally buggy

P4, V8420deluxe, WinXPpro, Detonator 40.41beta, Stereo 30.82: StereoViewerType 1: it works most of the time, but still a bit stubborn; Type 2: it works occassionaly, but quite stubborn and often blue-screens.

My recommendations:

Keep trying, check out every new nVidia and ASUS driver.
Get some other glasses, like i-Art, VRStandard or i-glasses and use StereoViewerType 1.
You can also build your own VGA-pass-through controller for the ASUS glasses. Check http://stereo3d.com/homebrew.htm

Hi, I've got the same problem with my ASUS V8440 Deluxe.
I've tried the 30.82 detonator + 30.82 stereo.
I didn't work neither in StereoViewerType 1 nor StereoViewerType 2.

Is it possible to get a tool or fix, which enables the controller, while using Nvidia's detonator drivers???

I don't have the knowlege and skill for writing such a tool.
I'm sure, there's someone out there, who does :-)

The ASUS glasses controller expects an a tweaked interlace or interlace-like video signal, with timing-gaps between frames. In other words this goes real deep. Even if you take a tool which can achieve this, like WINx3D, the combination with the nVidia driver shouldn't work.

I just got an ASUS V8460 deluxe...
1. CD drivers cause a crash before startup
2. NVIDIA ref. 40.71 work ok but stereo drivers not recognised.
3. 30.87 drivers (VGA and stereo) work fine BUT one eye black for stereo!!!! StereoViewerType 2 causes a crash!
How can ASUS market such a flawed product?

Hello, I am a new victim to ASUS V8420 Delux card. I spent almost a week already struggling with it and here are my findings:
nVidia driver 30.87 cannot activate the glasses (probably for reasons described above). ASUS driver sucks, it simply does not work with any of the new games (BF1942, Mafia, Max Payne). I tried all possible tricks with it, nothing...
The only way I found to make it work (kinda) is to install both nVidia and ASUS stereo drivers together. I activate the glasses with
ASUS driver by opening some simple 3D application. Then I turn it off and activate nVidia driver with a hot key. I don't know how it works but when it does (sometimes stereo becomes very poor, probably due to different driver interference) it looks butiful. I can run it at high resolution and refresh rates, so it looks like a good quality hologram, very cool. ViewerType in the regisrty is set to 1, setting it to 2 makes stereo image worse. For obvious reasons I am not satisfied with this solution, so I would like to hear about
other setups that worked. In particular, Christoph, could you please provide some more info on this setup allegedly working with P4 and 30.82 drivers. I have P4 on ASUS P4S533 mobo running Win98 with 30.87 nVidia drivers.

Serge.

###How can ASUS market such a flawed product?###

I think the problem lies with nVidia. nVidia is releasing driver versions in short intervalls. Obviously ASUS has troubles following them and putting their stereo-technology in. nVidia also made changes which caused the ASUS-stereo-driver to produce wrong depth. Almost everything is out-of-screen now and you can't fix it.

The nVidia reference driver is nVidias business. I told the developers many many times that StereoViewerType=2 for ASUS doesn't seem to work on most PC-configurations, but they keep telling me that it should just work.

I think ASUS should stop their own stereo development and work together with nVidia to get the ASUS-mode right.

Let's see how Detonator 40.x-stereo will work.

In an earlier post I wrote that I got some 40.x beta working with 30.82 stereo under XP. This must have been wrong. I mean I got 30.x with stereo 30.82 working under XP in viewer=1 mode.

###Christoph, could you please provide some more info on this setup allegedly working with P4 and 30.82 drivers.###

I use StereoViewerType=1, this usually works, but not with the ASUS-glasses-controller. You should get some good, flexible glasses with intelligent controller, like i-Art 4-in-1, VR-Joy or NuVision 60GX-NSR. (See http://www.stereo3d.com/recommend.htm )

Thanks Christoph, your info finally convinced me that ASUS glasses (plugged in ASUS controller) cannot be used with nVidia drivers. Getting the third party glasses would clearly solve the problem, but I just cannot justify spending another $100 or more on something I already paid for.
Do you think I can get just a controller and use it with my ASUS glasses? If I could get a controller for some $20-$30 it could be an acceptable solution in my situation.

Serge.

people with asus 84xx try plugging your monitor into the 2nd VGA Output using the adapter supplied. Your 3D glasses should now work with Nvidia drivers

Asus 8440,athlon,xp pro, have written to ASUS and told them I will not buy any of their beta products ever again and I will advise all who ask me the same... good money for unsuported crap.. 4 months of reinstalling drivers,Xp, messing with redgistry...they dont work properly so should not be allowed to sell them ! you cant blame Nvidia, Asus drivers dont even work with their own products so how is a third party driver supposed to work ? someone could make good money if they released a full working set of 3d drivers that actuall work with nvidia drivers under xp for all the suckers like me that baught the Asus Beta glasses... should have looked at it b4 forking out my hard earned !! but Asus have lost my custom and I upgrade my M/board and Graphics once a year and usually help others I know upgrade theirs too.. they are not Microsoft...we do have alternatives !! and I will be on of the many that cheer when they go down the toilet like they deserve !!

### plugging your monitor into the 2nd VGA Output

That's a great hint. Thanks.

Using the second VGA-port the glasses behave just like on the older Asus Deluxe boards. The glasses are always on and in sync with the VGA-signal.

Remains the severe problem of having no control of stereo orientation, since the nVidia driver still doesn't have a stereo-reverse hotkey!?!
In 50% of cases the stereo is inverted.

Hi,

I have V8460, win98, Detonator 30.82 (+stereo) since I need the 30.82 version for the pivot pro software of my LCD panel to work correctly (that's the only version that pivot pro works with).
Previously I had older ASUS drivers and they worked flaulessly (almost). Now I can't seem to cause my glasses to shutter (one black lens) when I view stereo stuff (not on the LCD of course but on my Analog monitor). Someone here has suggested installing both Asus and Detonator drivers and switching between them/disabling one, then enabling the other. Does anyone have a clue how this could be done? Does anyone have any other duggestion?

Connect the monitor to the other VGA-port of your card. Now the glasses should always be on. Only problem is that you don't have control of the left-right-orientation via the nVidia driver, unless StereoViewerType = 2 in the registry works for you.

The thing is that I have a dual-monitor setup:
An analog CRT connected to the normal VGA-port (this is the monitor that I want to activate and use for 3D-apps with the glasses) and a digital LCD panel connected to the digital DVI port (this is my regular monitor which I enable and use for non-glasses stuff).
Since the LCD panel is connected to the DVI port (I assume that this is the other VGA-port you're referring to), I cannot connect the monitor to it.
Any other idea?

Get some other glasses. Usually you find pretty cheap Revelators at eBay.
