I was wondering, why won't 3d glasses work with the VGA Box adapter for the Sega Dreamcast. I mean you can use a VGA monitor with the adapter and Sega uses WindowsCE libraries which might include a striped down version of Directx drivers. I don't know if its possible I just want some feedback. Thanks |

It will doubtfully work. I don't know well the technology, but by using the vga box to use a vga monitor won't change a thing. There might be a chance thou. |

I have the 3d glasses and a Dreamcast, but I don't have a VGA Box to test it. Who knows, it might be possible. By the way, does anyone know if the LG Flatron or the Sony Wega are able to do the ABAB mode? |

I need the 3d glasses(maybe the vrjoy2000 they look nice)to try it out. I have a DC with many games and the VGA Box but sorry man, I can't try it. Talking about the Flatron and the Wega televisions, I'm no technician. Maybe someone else knows, its interesting. Just imagine being able to see 3d in your tv. |

Hmm... Dreamcast with directx? I didn't know, it might work if that is the case. But its the PowerVR the only thing that can prevent it from working. The graphics chip that the DC uses may not be compatibel. Even i you use a vga Box to use a monitor. I have a Wega television I don't think its possible that thing of the ABAB mode! |

It should not be too technically hard to synchronize some shutter glasses to the Dreamcast video output - but for what purpose but increased flicker ? I don't think there is any Dreamcast software that can produce any kind of stereo output format with distinct left-right pictures. Because of the black-box (OK, grey-box :-) concept of a game console, there is also no place for some generic driver like the VRCaddy to plug in. |

But you don't have to use the VRcaddy. There are some games in the PC that work without vrCaddy. Besides there are some crazy people out there who have the ability to code for the dreamcast. Only they can make it happen. |

In theory it may be possible to do real stereo on the dreamcast. Here is a hypothesis on how it could work: 1) Someone writes a universal stereo driver for the Dreamcast. 2) The CD with the stereo-driver is inserted, just like the Bleemcast Playstation-emulator. 3) The driver-CD is replaced by the game CD. 4) The Dreamcast now produces an above-below split-screen stereo image. 5) The VGA-converter delivers a 60Hz signal which is converted into 120 Hz by an external sync-doubler shutterglasses-controller which sits between VGA-box and VGA-monitor. Problem: the game programmers may max out the memory and other resources of the Dreamcast which leaves no room for the stereo-driver. It should be possible to include stereo-support into the Bleemcast Playstation emulator however. Personally I have no interest in such nonsense, since I'm the proud owner of an almost 2 year old PC with a 1 year old GeForce, which beats DC and even PS2 (!) in almost every department. Christoph |

But for example the vrjoy2000 has the box which doesn't need any drivers, what if you connect the dc to the vga box, then from the vga box you put the box for the 3d glasses and then to the monitor. The page flipping or synch is done by the glasses' adapter. BTW Geforce beating the Dreamcast... The software is not powerful enough to compare to the Dreamacst new generation games. Maybe if you used Shenmue for example with the Geforce, but right now the DC has better graphis than the Geforce. |

May I suggest to concentrate our effort to just one (read as 'the other') of these two almost identical Dreamcast discussion threads ? |

Com'on, discussing about PC VS Console? That's old stuff by now. I have a Celeron 433MHz with 128MB RAM and a GeForce 2 MX, as well as over 10 videogame consoles, and I believe that all is completely different. Better in some ways, worse in others, but completely different... |

As far as I know, VRJoy/VRJoy 2000 systems REQUIRE VRCaddy to be running with games. I've used it many times, and the only way that it'll work WITHOUT vrcaddy is when you are looking at pre-made stereo images. VRCaddy takes the D3D info, and processes two camera angles from it in real-time, and either interlaces or page-flips the two images (depending on what hardware and version of VRCaddy you are running). I have NEVER, ever gotten a 3D game title to work without using VRCaddy in the background. The software would have to have VRJoy code integrated into the source to work without VRCaddy. You would need the software on your Dreamcast to be running a WIN3D or VRJoy compatible app of some sort. The VRJoy hardware merely interlaces the video signal, it doesn't have the ability to produce two angles of video from a single VGA signal (the computer/console needs to do that chore). So, in conclusion, either the software doesn't work right, or it's configured improperly, or your hardware just isn't compatible. However, emulating the game in a D3D environment on the PC would work. I've been playing PSone games under Bleem with VRCaddy and VRJoy 2000 hardware, and it works fine with minimal slowdown. Same holds true with N64 games emulated on the PC (Satfox64 and Goldeneye baby!!! ^_^ Awesome!). |

Sony STR-DE515 receiver - Anyone understand how to use the 5.1/DVD connectors? The manual states this is an input from a decoder that has a DVD player without a decoder built in. I can't find anyone who knows exactly what this means or where a decoder can be found. I am trying to connect a DVD player to this receiver but have become confused. Don't take much to confuse me. Thanks |
