Hi to all

I'm planning to buy a new ATI card (currently I'm using a GeForce4, eDim glasses and XP pro).
Until now I used the nvidia stereo drivers but now I'm a bit confused about other manufacturers :-(

For what I understand the only solution(s) are wicked3d and vrcaddy:
I try wicked3D from eDim site but they wont work under XP (and wicked site seems to be offline) I tryied also the VRCaddyXP trial but it requires dx8 (I've installed dx9) and refuses to install ... someone using recent ati cards can help me with a suggestion?

tnx in advance
Gio

Well, as you said, wicked3D is dead, and even VRCaddy themselves recommend NVidia for 3D gaming (and apparently also seems to have stopped moving for a while now ;-).
So, I'd think twice about changing to ATI...

tnx for the suggestions, now I'm thinking about fx (@#@#@#@à)

btw the lack of support from other manufacturers is very strange, it's a small market but a stereo driver is a stupid piece of software, an easy work for ati/etc engineers!!!

If anyone knows about coding stereo drivers, I could get you a lot of money. Contact me if you do.

@David:
Point would be the lack of a generic stereo plug-in for DirectX and/or OpenGL and non-NVidia cards, I'd guess - as long as hardly any game developer integrates Winx3D.

@nickyi:
Maybe you should ask Metabyte or VRStandard about what the people who made their stereo plug-ins are currently doing ;-)

no one has written stable gaming drivers that are ubiquitous for all cards. I can get $20K+ easily to someone who can make drivers that actually work, like the nVidia drivers do. The VRCaddy drivers are terrible. Metabyte is no longer doing stereo. If anyone is serious about writing good drivers, let me know and I'll have the contracts drawn up.

I guess David could tell a tale of keeping stereo drivers up-to-date with all cards, not to talk about working with all games. Trying to find a programmer who could do this job from scratch in a few months sound like quite an ambitious goal to me...

Dear "stupid programmer"

I cant' write a stereo driver obviously, I want to apologize for my previous post but you must read my post like "a stupid driver for the same engineers developing the video drivers"
I cant think a stereo driver is incredibly difficult for the people writing catalyst or detonator drivers (for example)

hi
i have a radeon 9700 pro
i can softmod this card to either a 9800 or a firegl x1/z1

do any of you guys know if i could find some stereo support yet for this card
i have the edimentional wired glasses and have to use a gforce mx/mx 400 softmoded to a quadro2
to use the stereo

i see some articles relating to the firgl having stereo support and was wondering about using the softmod to enable the drivers ?

the performance hit on a gforce 2mx 400 is just too high and im sure the radeon would kick its ass but as yet ati seem to be uninterested in the developement of a sterreo 3d driver base for the r300/r350 boards :(

in another light the gforce fx does look intersting but seems a shame to buy a new card when i got a rad9700 :(

any body who knows of any beta drivers or any posible way to use the nivida stereo drivers on a ati card plz let us know !!

You can try http://www.vrcaddy.com/
or http://www.scitech.com/ (GLDirect)

###i see some articles relating to the firgl having stereo support

Stereo support isn't exactly the same as stereo-game support.
Please check http://stereo3d.com/driverc.htm

###or any posible way to use the nivida stereo drivers on a ati card

As far as I know the main stereo logic is build deep into the Detonator driver. The 'stereo-driver' file only contains the setup menu, game-configs, registry entries and the like.

With some serious effort the ATI developers could build the stereo logic into their driver, but they would get sued by nVidia.

Hi, I tested GLDirect from scitech with an ati9000, and it works. I tested with RTCW and SOF2(only MP worked).
But i'm very disapointed about the stereo effect. It's only stereo when i recognize a double image. it's stereo, but double picture. I redused this double effect and got less stereo to no stereo effect. Stereo pic's locking great, but stereo in games? I'm sorry having nothing to compare. Is NVIDIA stereo similar to others? I have to test it on a geforce card.
