Hi all,

This explanation is kinda long, but I'd really like to get this problem fixed. Thanks in advance for any help...

I've been a 3D enthusiast for years. Back in 1999 I bought a set of wired Revelator 3D LCD glasses. They worked well, but shortly after buying them, Elsa went belly up, as you all know. I pretty much gave up on these glasses for the last several years, since no one was providing new drivers for them. I happened to do a web search today and found out for the first time about Nvidia's native 3D stereo support. Joy!

I downloaded version 56.64 of the Detonator drivers, and version 56.64 of the ForceWare 3D drivers and installed them. I am aware of the newer version 56.72, but it appears this release only works on XP/2000, and I'm running Win98 SE, so I didn't take my chances.

After the mandatory reboots, I hooked up the glasses. When the system rebooted, I went into the Nvidia control panel and set:

Stereo Properties:
Enabled by Hot Key
Separation 10%
DDC VGA glasses

Advanced Stereo:
All default values

Stereo Setup and Test:
800X600
144 Hz
(My monitor is a ViewSonic MB110. It can handle that refresh rate. It's the same setting I used back in 1999)

Then the fun begins. I pressed Lauch Test Application, and Nvsttest instantly crashes with a page fault.

So, I go back to the Stereo Properties panel, and click the Stereo Viewer button. It tells me:

"NVIDIA Stereo features not enabled, lauching Control Panel."

I clicked the Medical Test Image, and got the same message.

I even took the drastic measures of reading the ForceWare manual. It didn't suggest anything useful for troubleshooting. Searchs on the Nvidia website, and the web in general didn't provide any help, other than finding this forum.

I've tried clicking Apply and OK, and various configurations, but nothing seems to enable the stereo.

So here are my questions:

- Has anyone gotten the Nvidia Stereo 3D drivers to work with Elsa glasses? (wired or IR)

- Under Windows 98 SE?

- Does anyone have debug or trouble shooting advice on this?

Here are my configuration details:
OS: Windows 98 SE
Video Card: Nvidia Geforce4 Ti 4200
Nvidia Drivers: 56.64
CPU: Athlon 1800+
Motherboard: ECS K7S5A
Monitor: ViewSonic MultiMedia Series MB110

Thanks,
Frobozz

Able was I, ere I bought Elsa...

It seems like NVidia messed up something in the control panel, probably only for Win98SE.
IIRC, I (also in Win98SE and 56.64's) got by by just ignoring these error messages, skipping the test applications. Games (i.e. at least the one OpenGL game I used to play recently :-) ) and stereo viewer launched from explorer seem to work fine, anyway.

Thanks Andreas. I did all that testing, but the one thing I didn't try is actaully playing a game. :P The stereo 3D looks incredible. I've gotten it to work on every game I've tried (America's Army, Mafia, Z Steel Soldiers, and the old Imperium Galactica III demo.)

I've noticed an occasional flicker in the shutters where both shutters go clear for a fraction of a second. Happens every few minutes. I'm not sure if it's a driver problem or a hardware problem. It doesn't seem to be related to specific games, since it happened in all the games mentioned above.

Another problem is that the driver automatically throws me into stereo mode every time I launch a game, even though I have it set to activate only on control-T. Hopefully Nvidia fixed that in later driver versions.

Kudos to Nvidia for taking all the effort to create and support this driver. It will be a positive factor in my choice between Nvidia and ATI. (I use both video card brands on several computers.)

So the verdict is:
Nvida 56.64 works fine in Win98 SE with Elsa Revelator.

I'm going to upgrade to XP over the weekend and try to get 56.72 installed.

Thanks again Andreas for your response.

Hi,

I have had very similar problems to do with the stereo not enabling! I use the H3D system from i-glasses.com.

On another computer they worked BRILLIANTLY! Everything was perfect, not even the occasional loss of sync. When however we upgraded our computer everything went downhill.

I now cannot enable stereo atall on the screen, however I have found that I CAN view stereo images on the web using an application called 'Depth Charge' used in conjunction with the H3D controller application.

I think the problems I am having are to do with my graphics card (Nvidia GeForce Fx 5950 - I think) as my primary use for the glasses is with game play.

-Very grateful for any help!

Cheers

hi everybody.

I have the same problem with my 3d revelator ir glasses on a win2000 system. I never tried stereo on win2000, because i used to play games under win98se. But since doom3 is not compatible i had to try it. I installed nvidia forceware 61.76 and 61.76 stereo ... and ended up with the same annoying error messages as described above. I also tried to ignore the errors ... but i didnt see any stereo in the game. It also doesnt work with forceware 61.77

Here is my system:

Athlon XP 1600+
NVidia XP 5600
Windows 2000
ELSA Revelator IR

Can anybody please help me ... It's only half the fun playing without stereo!

I, too, have had the same problem of "stereo not enabled" error messages (ASUS V8200, with the Nvidia drivers). It never occurred to me to actually try playing a game and seeing what happened! As I firmly believe in the "try anything" school of troubleshooting, I'm surprised I missed that.

I'll give it a shot.
