Stereoscopic Player 0.9 crashes during the middle of full feature DVD playback. The discs (I've tried over 15 different titles) at first play fine and suddenly lag severely or the program simply crashes at different points of the DVD, especially in full frame interlaced viewing. Any thoughts on what I might be missing? I have a good PC for movie viewing and video processing so I'm leaning heavily on ruling out lack of PC capability. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks. |

i though I was the only one having the problem, so had this workaround.... I just copied the 3d file (interlaced vob) to harddisk an then played it back. Seems tht stereoscopic player wasnt able to be as robust as Power dvd etc in playing bck direct from dvd in full screen mode, while sustaining correct framerate (ie no stutter) throughout themovie.) In a typical movie of 40 mins (haunted house & encounters)it stuttered around 20mins into playback from dvd. Im supposing tha the conversion process to anaglyp may have been taking a hit on the cpu though. My machin is shuttle 2.7 ghz, 512mb ram, nvidia gforce with 128mb onboard, and the decoder assigned to stereoscopic player is elecard. (the intervideo or powerdvd decoder isnt working proper for me somehow |

Wish I would've thought of that sooner... so you had no problems after copying the files directly to PC? I guess I could just rip the DVD to the HD and try that. Thanks for the tip. |

I keep hearing about this type of problem and I always assumed it was a RAM problem... you know, like when you are using a computer for a long period of time and it starts slowing down and you have to reboot. I assume that somehow "dumps" the RAM and starts over. I still have to do this to this day with a fast PC and 1.5G's of RAM, but it usually takes a few hours and a lot of rendering or something intense. I don't understand how copying the DVD to the HD would help, here, though, if it's a RAM limitation, so I might be way off track :-) If I'm right, I would think that eventually you would have this problem just watching a bunch of 2D DVD's consecutively, too, but people probably rarely do that long enough to find out. Obviously, the 3D conversion is using up resources, too, so this would happen *sooner* than when just watching 2D movies. PKK |

Hello, It's the first time I hear Stereoscopic Player crashes in the middle of a DVDs. Nobody ever reportet this problem, thanks very much for this hint! Personally, I play all DVDs from harddisk but will do tests with playback from DVD soon... Please note that the recommended GPL MPEG Decoder does not play encrypted discs. However, if the disc is encrypted, it should not be possible to start playback at all. Decrypting the disc to HD solves the problem. The interlaced output modes of Stereoscopic Player are the slowest ones. If you have an NVIDIA card, use the NVIDIA stereo driver mode instead and configure it to use interlaced output. There's a hack available which will enable this output option in the NVIDIA stereo driver. Just copy the following lines in a text file with *.reg extension and doubleclick it in Exporer to add the information to the registry: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D] "ShowAllViewerTypes"=dword:00000001 By the way, the NVIDIA stereo driver must be installed separately. It can be downloaded form http://www.nvidia.com. Please note that the version number of grpahic and stereo driver must match, else it will not work! If you shutterglasses support pageflipping, you should use pageflipping instead of interlaced mode since it offers much better quality. To Clyde: In version 0.9.1, the optimized anaglyph mode works much faster than in previous versions (on processors with SSE2 support only, e.g. Pentium 4, Pentium M, new Athlons). Version 0.9.1 is not officially available o the homepage yet, so use the following link to install it: http://stereo3d.gmxhome.de/StereoscopicPlayer091.msi Matt & Clyde: Could you please try the new version and tell me if the problems still persist. There was also a severe memory leak in previous versions which could case playback problems when playing long movies. It is fixed in version 0.9.1! Here's the whole list of changes from 0.9 -> 0.9.1 * Many people asked for this feature, now it is available: Horizontal and vertical parallax adjustments! In addition, it is possible to crop the output image. Cropping can be specified on the 'Advanced'-tab of the video properties dialog, wheres parallax adjustment can be done in the file menu, too, or using the arrow keys while pressing the shift button. * New menu items were added to allow horziontal and vertical flipping, for left and right image separately. Rotating the image by 180° is possible by activating both horizontal and vertical flipping. * New menu items, including shortcuts, were added to select the preferred monoscopic and stereoscopic viewing method. There were already buttons to do this in previous version, but now you can do the same in the menu. * Improved DVD support: New menu items to select audio language, subtitle language and to jump to a certain title or chapter. * New Japanese and Polish translation. Thanks very much to Masuji Suto and Andrzej Waluk. The localization code has been improved: Stereoscopic Player resizes controls automatically, so it is no longer necessary to modify dialogs manually. Creating a new localization is as easy as translating all string of text file now. By the way, a few important languages are still missing: I'm seeking for people who do the Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese localization. * SSE2 optimizations of OpenGL and optimized anaglyph viewing method. On SSE2- enabled processors, the processing algorthms runs more than twice as fast. * There was a memory leak in previous versions which allocated a few kB per second. We tracked it down and fixed it in this version, so that the player is more stable during long stereo viewing sessions. * Parts of the Stereo Transformation Filter have been rewritten. The code is cleaner now and has been prepaired to easily intergrate new features. * The property page of the Stereo Transformation Filter has been split to three separate pages and has been extended to support all new features. |

Hi Peter, I will try it out soon. Actually it wasnt really bothering me that much that the DVD was stuttering... But yes I guess if it were to be used in a semi or professional setting then it would be a matter of concern. To be really fair though.. im wondering if disabling all the spyware detectors and anti-virus stuff on the comp would help? (This dosnt affect my normal dvd discs playback). Will report results soon Regards Clyde |

Ps .. I never experienced a crash .. just stutter. and I know that its playing perfect when copied to HD. So I think its a couple of things at work that make the dvd disc stutter: 1) The bandwith Pipe from disk to display card 2) the fact that the video is being "processed" for conversion - i.e interlaced to anaglyph 3) possible snoopy software like spycatachers taking up interrupt cycles etc... Regards Clyde |

Clyde, will the Lead codec video plays properly after switching to fullscreen mode and back to windowed mode or after changing the viewing method? If not, could you please send me a screenshot of the File->Video Properties->Filters dialog, with 'Stereo Transformation Filter' selected in the filter list. |

Since it happens in Windows Media Player too it's very likely a codec problem. You should tell Lead Technologies about it, maybe they can provide a solution. |

You are right, SP really crashes when adjusting vertical parallax. I'll fix it in the next release. |

Hi Peter, Your stereoscopic Player isn't very stable on my machine. It keeps throwing up errors when I close it down. It also doesn't display some video in the 3D format. I have one of those eDimensional glasses which flicker back and forth and I can't get movies to be displayed in the format which would allow me to see them in stereovision format. Anyway I think your program is a real winner if you fixed the glitches. Well done! |

Which viewing method are you using with your eDimensional glasses? Quad-buffered OpenGL, NVIDIA Stereo Driver or Software Pageflipping? Please send me the error message which shows up when closing down the player. Before you close the player and the video is still opened, send me the filter list shown in File->Video Properties->Filters. With this information, I hope to be able to find out what's the problem. PS: Are you using the lastest version 0.9.6? If not, please upgrade: http://www.3dtv.at/Downloads |

How many of you guys actually paid for your stereoscopic player? You get it for free, complain, get free tech support yet don't spend a dime. :-( |

I agree it is free. Maybe if more people "donated" or actually bought the unit it would improve faster? |

Stereoscopic Player isn't free, actually. The demo version stops playing after 5 minutes, so you have to re-open the movie every 5 minutes. This gives you the chance to evalute the player before buying. Of course, if more people buy the player, I could work on it full-time, which would fasten improvements... |

Let me put in a good word for Peter Wimmer's Stereoscopic Player. I've used it for several years, through several versions, and it has always played back my large library of stereoscopic video files and DVDs extremely well. It's well worth the approximate U.S. $46 price, considering that its only real competition is a professional level stereoscopic player retailing for about $2,000 (Ouch!). And no, I'm NOT Peter Wimmer using an alias, don't own stock in his company, and don't have a hidden axe to grind...So please spare me the hate posts that have become much too common on this forum. |
