We use an NVIDIA FX 3400 video card with the latest NVIDIA drivers installed (i.e. 77.56_win2kxp_english_whql.exe and 78.01_3Dstereo.exe).

This is to drive our passive stereo CYVIZ immersive VR facility.

One of our software vendors has informed us that the NVIDIA FX 3400 cards "stereo rendering in OpenGL may not be supported directly - it may just be supported in DirectX".

The vendor also stated that "the application works by sending a query to the card's OpenGL driver, and if the driver reports back that stereo rendering is available, asks the card to do the rendering in stereo (with appropriate parameters_. There is not much more to it than that - so there may yet be a driver issue"

My questions are

(Q1) I am surprised the FX 3400 does not allow OpenGL raw stereo, can this be confirmed? At what NVIDIA card level does stereo rendering in OpenGL get supported directly?

(Q2) Has anyone else specced up cards for multiple software applications, most vendors specify the card must have "an NVIDIA chipset" then steer clear of direct video card recommendations (I suspect) due to the wide variety of hardware out there.

(Q3) Any suggestions on retro NVIDIA drivers or other fixes for this issue?

I saw the stereo3d thread below for example

Thanks

Problem solved, we found switching OpenGL stereo on (and DirectX stereo off, which can conflict) in the advanced nVIDIA controls GUI got the OpenGL stereo working.

We had been concentrating upon the DirectX stereo settings as these are more dominant (or obvious) upon the nVIDIA controls GUI, the OpenGL controls are a bit buried in the Advanced Settings dropdown of the Global Driver Settings area of the nVIDIA GUI.
