I'm not sure if this will work (depends of video card and drivers), but try the folowing: 1. Call up the Quake2 console 2. type "CL_STEREO 1" Experiment with all resolutions at 640x480 and below. Make sure you are at 256 colors. You can alter the amount of seperation with "CL_STEREO_SEPARATION x". In general to configure the VFX1 for use with Quake2: 1. Make sure you are using version 2.14 or later of the VFX1 drivers. (available at http://www.iisvr.com) 2. Copy the included config file (below) into your quake2/baseq2 directory. 3. Add an autoexec.cfg file in the quake2/baseq2 directory with the following line in it: exec vfx1.cfg 4. Check the "Relative Mode" box in the VFX1 control panel. 5. Set the VFX1 Headgear tracker as Joystick 1 and the CyberPuck as Joystick 2 in Windows. The puck is configured via the Customize Controls option within the game. 6. Run Quake2. Here are the settings to Cut and past into the file named vfx1.cfg: // begin config file // in_joystick 1 joy_name "VFX1 Headgear with Cyberpuck" joy_advanced 1 joy_advaxisv 0 joy_advaxisx 20 joy_advaxisy 18 joy_advaxisz 0 joy_advaxisr 3 joy_advaxisu 1 joy_forwardsensitivity -1.0 joy_sidesensitivity 1.0 joy_yawthreshold .0001 joy_pitchthreshold .0001 joy_pitchsensitivity 1.0 joy_yawsensitivity -1.0 joy_forwardthreshold .001 joy_sidethreshold 0.1 joy_advancedupdate +mlook // end config file // Good luck, and please post back your results... -VRJUNKIE |

nx, No, sorry... I must be one of the few gamers on earth that never bought Quake2! I use original Quake it's add on packs, conversions, and other games that use the same engine (like Hexen II). I love the full yaw, pitch and roll support they provide! I had the info I gave you on my computer - I have megabytes of drivers and info files on the VFX1 - anytime I see any kind of tip or anything I grab it! Hopefully someone else here can "chime in" and give you more information specific to Quake2 - that's all I had on it. By the way, I meant to answer a prior post you made regarding brand of video card - The video card I use is the Intergraph Intense 3D Voodoo (it's a rush card) and has an active VESA feature connector. I also run twin 12mb Metabyte Voodoo2's. I once heard that Voodoo Banshee cards worked - but I never got any confirmations on it. I would love to find this out for sure... I also could never get anyone to explain the difference to me between a VMI connector and a VESA feature connector port (they both have 26 pin headers) - and I spoke with a few engineers at video card companies! If anyone can enlighten me on this I would appreciate it. I wonder if it has the option to output the same data? I have seen a few companies use these terms interchangeably. -VRJUNKIE |

can't help you with that card/vesa connector doubts i want use a quake map for educational purposes. i intend to use Quake 1 and vfx 1 but quake 2 and quake 3 are much better for architecture. that's why i ask :-) i don't have the $$ to buy a vfx3d and there's not much support for this... anyway, i can keep you upadated if you want (using vfx1 for education + quake map). if you have a tip that could help: nelsong@ip.pt nx |

What kind of display card are you using? If you get VRCaddyME, and your display card supports page-flipping, than you may be able to get it to work this way. Install VRCaddyME, a free demo version is available from thier website at http://www.vrcaddy.com I Believe the VFX1 supports page flipping and De-interlace. If you inststall the Page-flipping version of VRCaddyMe, you can go into control panel, and run the Win3D setup utility that will be installed. Specify card, select primary display adapter, and the VFX1 as your VR hardware. Now, you can use VRCaddyME, along with the MINIGL driver to play OGL QuakeII in stereo. BTW, if you are using a 3DFX chipset, you may be out of luck, but, if you install Win3D seperately,(from http://www.win3d.com) you can set it up in the manner described above to play it in interlaced (that is, if the VFX1 truly supports interlaced format). Give it a try, what could it hurt? -Eric L. |
