i have a p3 1 GHZ with an Asus motherboard (cuvx-e) and an Asus v7100 graphic card. When more than 1 Gb of ram is installed, my graphic card locks up windows and refuses to work. the same with my soundcard SB Live 1024. Can Anyone help me?

(you really should seek advice in the newgroups, as you're likely to find better help in the appropriate ones BUT)

General questions that might point you in the right direction...

At what point does the system freeze? Is there any video at all when you start up the system? Does it wait til windows is loaded to freeze? Does it only freeze when you run one application?
If there is video while the sysetm is booting (while the screen is black) and freeze it when it turns to your win background, try loading into safe mode, if safe mode is ok, most likely problem is drivers (but not necessarily your video card's or sound card's drivers!).

Did the system ever work with that video card/sound card with more than 1 GB? If no, look into the possibility of the motherboard having some kind of problem or bug. A bad BIOS setting is also possible, could try resetting all BIOS to factory defaults. If yes, you need to figure out what you have changed since it worked.

Sounds like a good situation to get a friend who knows about harwdare and strip the machine, adding one component at a time.

One other thing i can think of, have you reinstalled the OS after adding any major components? I.e. sound card, video card, RAM, CPU, etc... If the system works until the windows background screen comes up and you haven't, then possible reinstalling OS might do it 4 you.

If it were my system, i'd backup all data, reset BIOS to factory defaults, remove any stuff like scanners and printers, FDISK the system (removing then readding partition, rebooting after each) format the drive and the reinstall the OS, takes mabye 30 minutes (figure an hour for most people). I do computer tech support and i know peole hate to fdisk and reinstall because you have to backup everything and reinstall os then all the applications, alot of work, but like everything else in life, there aren't any shortcuts. If the problem is in fact software based, this is almost guaranteed to fix the problem. If it doesn't work, then it's time to suspect something's wrong with the hardware/jumpers/etc..
