Hi, I pretty sure something is broken but I thought I would write here and see what you guys think. A few years ago I bought an Elsa ErazorIII with the Revelator Glasses. They worked great, I was pleased with them until I became bored with em. Months later I had an urge to use em and they didn't work. Again I have become interested in using them. I've tried absolutely everything I can think of but there must be something broken. They will not work with any driver or combination there of that I can find on the net. They also will not work with my GeForceII 64Mb card. If I remember correctly, the revelators used to start shuttering as soon as the PC was booted. Currently, they never shutter period. I have come to the conclusion there is a hardware problem somewhere's. From reading the homebrew articles, I decided I had nothing to lose by connecting a 9v battery directly to the LCD connection in the frames themselves. Viola, the LCD darkens, both of them infact. Ok, the lenses are fine. Next I try to apply the 9v charge to the DIN3 connector. Nothing, absolutely no combination will work. Ok... this is where I have to start asking questions. Along the wire between the Din3 connector, and the LCD panels in the glasses themselves there is a small plastic enclosure. At first I always thought this was a coil to help reduce electrical interferance, but upon closer inspection, I'm starting to think this is a control circuit of somekind. The wire on the LCD side has 3 conducting wires, Left, Right and Ground. The wire on the Din3 side Im starting to think has 4... Is this the +5v/ground & vsync/ground combination as in the homebrew circuits? Is the little black box a control circuit? Is it possible it is fried? Just last night I decided to spend some money I didn't have, I ordered the eye3d premium set of glasses for $119 at http://www.demensional.com . I think I will be a lot happier with these glasses, however this leads me to another question. The eye3d glasses use from what I can tell a audio stereo jack. If I take my Revelators, which are non-functional as far as I know, and attach an audio stereo jack to the 3 conducting wire lead running directly to the LCD panels will I be able to use them? From what I assert looking at the pictures, it looks like this is exactly they way the eye3d glasses are wired. I suppose the only concerns would be voltage differences between the LCD's and the Polarity. Not having exceptional ammounts of money to waste on computers any longer, it sure would be cool to extend the life of these Revelators. Thanks for any replies, they will be appreciated. Lucky |

You'd better hope that your nickname is right; there is some chance that your Rev's didn't survive that attack. The box indeed is a little controller, which translates the L/R signal from the DIN3 connector to the LCD panels, and turns them off when there is no signal for some (quite short) time. Most likely, it's also a PIC 12Cxxx inside, like in the IR emitter, which is rated for ..5.5V nominal and 7.5V absolute maximum, so it may have been damaged by the 9 Volts test, if not on the panels, then on the DIN3 connector... BTW: as the name _DIN3_ says, it has _3_ lines - 5V, L/R and GND, with 5V and L/R mis-using some of the VGA connector pins. The synchronisation of the L/R signal to the video frames is done by the driver in the PC (both of which are endless sources of pain to most Rev' owners), instead of 'real' controllers, which do it in hardware from the sync signals. Revelators will start to shutter whenever there is sufficently frequent change on the L/R line, which may already be during boot, since monitor and VGA card use the same line to negotiate their settings. No more signal, and they will stop, i.e. stay clear. The stereo jack on the Eye3D controller is for 'stupid' glasses, i.e. 3 wires for left, right and common backplane - which is like the wired Rev's without the little controller box in between. So, not adaptor will help, but if you are sure you fried the controller (I'd double-check first), you might still be able to use the glasses with a plain stereo cable (if you know what you are doing). Do you have ant idea what you might have changed in the system between the Rev's working and no more working ? Same ErazorIII, same driver, same OS, same DirectX ? Adaptor cable plugged into Erazor VGA out ? ELSA boards won't have problems with +5V power supply to the Rev's on VGA pin 9, at least (unless you somehow managed to blow the fuse, which usually will be somewhere in between), but maybe your GeForce has. Did you install any other stereo driver (Wicked3D, WinX3) - they usually have problems to coexist with Revelator drivers ? Was it only the glasses that didn't work ? If you didn't you get any stereo at all (mixed L/R pictures on the screen), you should first make sure to remove all old driver files before installing new ones - usually most NV*.* files in the windows directory and below, and all NVidia related registry entries. I thought the Din3 might have 4 lines because of the 3 pins, plus the outer sleeve. Its nice to be around people more knowledgable than I. I may be wrong, but I am sure the LCD panels are still fine after the 9v test. If I can figure which wires ( Left, Ground, Right ) get connected to each terminal on a stereo jack, I'll probably try using them with my new Eye3D setup. As far as what I may have changed in my system, I have no idea. I have upgraded so many times, I can only speculate what my machine configuration was when they had last worked. Like I said, I had tried every driver, the only thing that I can forsee that I havent tried is the original DirectX 6.0. Seeing that I can't uninstall Dx 8.0a, I don't want to bother formatting to find out if this is the reason. I have also tried the other drivers, Winx3, Nvidia, they work. The monitor does what it should, ei: draw in stereo, but the glasses do not shutter. It must either be that the little black box in the wire to the glasses are shot, or that for some reason there is no +5v coming from the video card. Either way, I give up. My Eye3d package will be here any day next week, and I'll be happening. Thank you very much for the informative post, Lucky |
