I have a special needs application ... I was wondering if somebody out there can help out.

I am not an electrical engineer, so I would not know where to begin in building this.... I would prefer someone else build it and I pay... :-)

I have a need for shutter glasses where I can control the shutter speed, so it is NOT synched to any video broadcast, PC or game ...

I want it to be a stand alone unit that is able to be worn around the house, with shutter speeds ranging from whatever the normal rates are for 3d video, all the way down to a cycle of every 1 or 2 minutes it changes... so left eye blacked out for 1 minute while right eye has 1 minute of view, then switch....

I would want that switch to work with a long slider or turn knob so I can decrease / increase that time frame / frequency ... and the lower end is not super sensitive so a micro adjustment of the knob makes it go from 1 cycle of every 1 second to 10 cycles every second... a graduated control that requires more turn or slide at the high end to adjust frequency so it is easy to fine tune in the faster cycles.

I was told that a pair of NE555 or a single NE556 with a potentiometer could do the basics for this and allow the glasses to run off a battery, but I have no idea where to begin with that. Even with step by step instructions I don't know if I could build that as I have zero background knowledge in electronics.

Can anyone build such a circuit / switch?

What shutter glasses would you recommend that can operate independent of any video/PC source. Just batteries (rechargeable AA, C, whatever) and this switch, and get fairly dark when the LCD is "on"? It is important for the darkened LCD to not allow the eye to see out when used in normal indoor ambient lighting conditions...

If need be, dual layered LCD panels (or triple) on each eye (as long as they were perfectly in synch) is OK if that will cut the light transmission accordingly. I saw some inexpensive wired LCD glasses on some site for $70. If more panels can be bought independently for less, and layered on the base frame and wired in, that is fine.

Thoughts?

Hi,

It can be done, sure. Can you tell me what the application might be? What do you mean by "special needs"?

If it means what it think it means - for the dissabled, I can program it with much much more functionality with a mictrcontroller etc and will try to charge for the components/shipping only so it wll be as cheap as possible.

At the moment i am very busy with final year projects and interim reports. In 6 months or so i should be available for whatever is needed.

Will be glad to help, but not sure if you can wait that long, no promises.

Let me know.

I would not say "disabled"... but in that area.

I have a friend who has normal vision in one eye only, but the other "bad eye" does function at 20/200 when the "good eye" is closed. It is techically an occular pit in the nerve causing the problem. Eye patches have been tried and surgeries have been performed. No success.

While my idea may not work, I am thinking if training the eyes to work at the same time through the varation of the frequency of the shutter glasses, they could have true vision again. The "bad eye" does work fine (well 20/200) when the good eye is closed, it is just a matter of getting them to work in unison. This idea may not work, but I think it is worth a try.

6 months is OK. I of course would prefer sooner, but... beggers can't be choosers. :-)

I am in the US.

Email me at "wolf_thunder -AT- yahoo.com" to discuss more details.

Thanks!

I can't believe that with all the people on this board who can build something like this, nobody has the time, right now, to do it.

Not so much no one has time, I think people are pretending to know what they're talking about, and really don't. I wouldn't hold anyones posts with any regard on here. Not to point any fingers but it wouldn't be the first time I've seen RAGEdemon running his mouth about something on which he has no clue about. He talks about programming hardware and this and that, but cannot even complete one post without typos.. REAL programmers pay attention when they are typing.

No offense RAGEdemon, but I flag you as full of sh*t. Why waste peoples time? Especially when someone is in need of assistance.

Chill Ragedemon.

Some people are full of shit.

If Anonymous knows so much that he can determine what you post here is rubbish, then why does he not correct you and educate the rest of us as well.

What a tosser.

All the best mate.

To get back into the discussion....

Wolf, if you are still interested in a solution, I have played around with some Revelator glasses, and I guess it will be possible to come up with a solution for you.

Still interested????
