It looks to me from the advertisements that Daeyang actually manufactures two different stereoscoopic HMDs one with a 26 degree fov and one with a 32 degree fov. I further assume both are based on the Colorado Microsystem micro displays. At least 2 local and one in the Netherlands web reseller are listing one or both types. 800x600 Stereo HMDs are very interesting, but what anecdotal information I have been able to glean from extensive web searches is that very little actual experience has been had with these products and what there is indicates they (are not quite there yet). I would really like anybody with any actual experience with these to express there feelings towards them. Specifically: 1. Are they useful as a terminal replacement eg: is text in 800x600 useable? and what are the limitations. 2. For VR / Game use, is the contrast, brightness, image quality, refresh speed and presentation adequate to provide an immersive experience. 3. Is the FOV adequate for immersion. 4. In stereo mode is the stereoscopic presentation convincing and a sufficient imporvement over non 3D to justify its cost. 5. How have they worked with existing stereoscopic capable programs and with generic Direct3D and OpenGL stereoscopic conversion programs and which ones worked best? 6. What are your likes and dislikes and what would you change. Any input at all would be greatly appreciated as these seem to be the only "affordable" high res HMDs available. Interesting, If you do a search on the web for Colorado Microsystems and Daeyang you get a bunch of responses indicating Daeyang signed a major supply contract for 800x600 LCD micro-displays with Colorado Micro. Gary | ||

Colorado Micro (Zight) went out of business early this year, so I am not sure how that could be? The releases you saw were when they were in prototype stage (1999-2000), when they went into production they used the Microdisplay corp displays, which Daeyang had a major financial stake in.
