Looks as a joke, I never heard that "Empire Strikes Back" & "Return of the Jedi" were converted to 3D format.

This is really a rare and interesting item. I saw this system many years ago on TV and thought it was Laserdisc based. I'm happy to finally have some info and photos of this system. Thank you Sarabean for the hint.

Vladimir, noone claimed that ESB and ROTJ are in 3D. The other titles are.

Would the VHDs tranfer directly to DVD? Or would some special coding be necessary to keep the interlaced image? I was thinking of putting a bid in but 2000 is a bit pricey. But then again, the equipment and discs probaly won't show up on Ebay again.

saraben:

It is nessesry:
Capture the analog signal from the metioned device by a good video digitization card with HW mjpeg codec (or HW DV codec).
In te next step is is nessery to conert the data in mpeg2 strem with an encoder with can work in non-progressive mode (I use frealy availabe bbMpeg) ...
The next step is DVD authoring in some profesional DVD authoring software with tkaes the imput stream as it is and create the DVD image with minor stream reprocesing (multiplexing only). I use Scenarist for this task ...
Last step is to burn the DVD ...
SuperVideo CD could be produce in similar way ...

DVD-Rs made from 3-D VHD discs have already been done for some time now. I even see some are now on eBay, and are made from the same person selling the VHD Player & discs. He made DVD-Rs for himself and is now selling the originals. I am assuming his copies are in the DVD-R format, as it has the widest compatibility with current DVD players. ..DVD+RW comes in 2nd, contrary to what the DVD+RW Phillips manufacturer claims.

If one considers buying a VHD disc player and software, one thing to be (slightly) concerned about is the VHD discs and how much "wear" might be on them. The VHD videodisc format used a stylus, so the stylus and the discs *do* wear out after repeated use.

A friend of mine had 3-D VHD discs, and he had to deal with a few "stutters" or "skips" here and there, due to bad spots in the disc itself.

VHD was nothing like the superior laserdisc format, but it did provide some great "A-List" 3-D classics in the field-sequential 3-D format, and still has better color and video S/N ratio than VHS or S-VHS has.

This guy must have some VHD stash or something... Does anyone know how many 3-D movies were relesed commercially in Japan? The seller claims the discs are scratch free and free of skips but how could that be determined without removing the discs and risking damage?
