Anyone heard of Oriscape? Apparently it's a company based in China that's involved in the VR market. Currently, they have many different models of HMDs, one of them being the Cyberman 2326M: http://www.oriscape.com.cn/2326m-e.htm Here are some specs supplied from TekGear.com: http://www.tekgear.com/product.cfm?sku=0170 Currently, the HMDs are being sold for a relatively low price of $300 by Intellicam USA on eBay, based in Cincinnati, Ohio: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1946294186 Anyone know about this company, and the quality of their HMDs? If you want to look forward to something, keep your eyes on microvision. They have been enlisted to develop the new VRD devices (virtual retinal displays). No word on when we'll see a display, but I would guess it's not too far off. If you don't know what a VRD is go to http://www.hitl.washington.edu/projects/vrd/ These things are supposed to be coming in at around $200 and will blow away everything that we're settling for now. | ||

Aonoymous, Can you give and explain your reasons why "consumer VRD is a pipe dream"? To exact, what do you think the barriers are for this product? I personally think it will become a reality within the next few years. It better be cause want to be in the business of making them. | ||

BOPrey, don't even bother with the trolls. You and I both know where the future in personal displays is. It is the only viable high performance, cost effective solution for bringing personal display technology to mass market. Also it is the ONLY technology which can currently deliver a true 3D image, everything else is just an illusion. Unfortunately it's probably a few years away still. The current limitation is the scanner. Without a new scanning technology, either mems or fibre, then it won't hit that sweet spot price wise and will still be as bulky as today's current solutions. So we just have to sit back and wait. However between LEP's and VRD's you're looking at the future of all display technology. | ||

Jared, What is the problem with the current off the shelf scanners? It is not difficult for me to find one(mirror size - 3mm by 3mm) that can do 500 line at 60 fps. In a year or so, when they get the mirror size down to 1mm sq, we will be able to do 1200 lines at 60 fps. BTW. The Horizontal resolution is unlimited. | ||

Well, nothing actually...they're workable for sure, but what kind of price are we talking about? The guys over a HITL are just using a mechanical resonant scanner they made in-house. That's really what it's all about, you can make a great VRD right now, but at what price point? The goal of the project was to develop a low-cost high-end personal display. They want to get it under the $200 price point and as I understand it current scanners are pretty expensive right? | ||

A year ago. I asked about, in many game discussion forums (mostly flight sim), how much are they willing to pay for a HMD with this spec(120 FOV at 1600x1200 stereo), the answer was between $450 to $600. About 150 people replyed to my poll. | ||

Hi, for 3D gaming: Average or better procesor CRT monitor with cca 100 Hz refresh at actually used resolution (some big CRTs have higher refreshrates, optimal 19-21") No LCD! 512 MB RAM NV Geforce graphiccard (I thing the optimal price/benefit ratio had 6600 GT) 3d goodles e-dimensional shutterglasses (wired, for use of multiple players in one room) N Vidia drivers (optimal 77.77 )and 3D stereodrivers must by the same 77.77. (free download on Nvidia homepage. Configurating 3D for games in stereodrivers (see manual for 3D stereodrivers- NV homepage) For advertisement were good 1 DLP projector with this setup - is possible 3d projection with this setup. The projector I have Benq PB 6240, at 86Hz refresh, the glasses must by R/L reversed (Change of active wires from googles). This is all. |
