anyone ever tried to make a nightvision hmd from his hmd ?

Yes. It is trivial. I had used 2 DV camera in
night 0 Lux visualisation mode, multiplexed the dual signal from dual firewire by my software video mixer, created an interlaced output by DepthQ video renderer, put the output to VFX3D HMD ... I have got a stereoscopic nigvision image.
Just a bit havy equpment (2 cameras, PC, power supply) :-) ...
Another interesting idea will be to sync the 3DOF tracking in HMD with some device rotatig the camera.
