A few days ago I received the three movies that make up the 3D horror classics collection: Night of the living dead, The little shop of horrors, and Dementia 13. I bought these movies from Slingshot (www.slingshotdvd.com).
I discovered that a small horizontal shift (2%) of the two video fields nullified the whole parallax and the movie appeared as standard 2D. I have verified this by watching several two-minute segments picked up at random in both NOTLD and the Little Shop. I did not bother to check Dementia.
I believe that I deserve a full refund for these movies from Slingshot.

Disappointed,
Itsik

No. You don't deserve a penny.

Why, none of these movies were originally shot in 3D. What makes you think they can be made to 3D. Do your home works first next time.

BTW. Treasure of the Four Crowns is a very good 3D movie.

I do not agree with BOPrey. If Slingshot sells these discs as 3D, why should customers assume they were not shot in 3D?

And I agree with Peter. Slingshot has previously NOT made it clear which titles are in true stereoscopic 3-D from the ones that are 2D to 3D conversions. (btw: "SOS Planet" from Slingshot is a true IMAX 3-D feature, unlike most of recent converted swill.) If Slingshot and Razor don't learn soon, in the long run they will shoot themselves in the foot!

Peter and Greg,

What I am saying is that even Slingshot did mis-present their products. As a consumer, we should really do our home works before we buy. This is even more important in this day and age, especially if you are buying online. In respect to stereo 3D movie, just think of it in an engineering perspective. How could one convert a 2D image to a true 3D image. If some one claims that he can do that, he is either lieing or an idiot. Either, his products should not be trusted.

BOPrey,
Where can I buy the treasure of the four crowns? Any other movies you recommend?

The point I was trying to make is should one have to be a movie buff and know which films were actually shot in 3-D and which ones were not? Now if Slingshot sells these items as blatent 2D to 3D conversions, then yes, I would agree that you get what you pay for and deal with it. But when no mention is made of a 2D to 3D coversion process *at all*.. then there's a problem.

http://www.slingshotent.com/index_flash.htm

ebay has a TON of field-sequential titles, but once again.. Buyer beware as overall quality varies and one can't be sure just how many generations down a given copy is..

Some 3-D horror titles in field-sequential:

.Friday the 13th Part III (*great* 3-D)
.Jaws 3-D (w/Lea Thompson, Lou Gosset Jr. etc etc)
.House of Wax (1950's classic w/Vincent Price)
.Parasite (early screen appearence of Demi Moore)
.Rottweiler (1980's low budget, but not bad)
.Silent Madness (1980's Low budget hooror)
.Frankenstein (One word: GORE! Be prepared as this one's a stomach churner in many ways)

..there's a few more, but note most of the films are out of circulation, so exactly what type of copy you'll find is questionable. I think it's a safe bet to say it'll still beat the current 2D to 3D crap. ;)

Hope this helps..

-Greg-

GregK,
Thanks for the support, and also for the list.
Risking being either an idiot or a liar according to BOPrey, I think that one can make a good 2D to 3D conversion. This is somewhat similar to converting B&W to Color. It requires a lot of hard work and patience.

Hello,
There is a freeware program for windows called Stereo Movie Maker that lets you convert 2D to 3D and it works rather well, you have the options of making a Field Sequential (LCD), Anaglyph(blue & Red),Gray Anaglyph,Side by Side,Above or Below, 3D formats, I have ripped DVD'S with smart ripper also freeware, Then take the VOB file of the move and convert it back into regular Mpeg 2 file using TMPGEnc. also freeware,Then import the Mpeg file into Stereo Movie Maker and convet in into Anaglyph or Field Sequential 3D you can only save it as an AVI file so I use The Divx 5.11 Codec with a high bitrate, you want to use as less compresion as possible keep it just under 4 GIG's so it will fit on a DVD-R. I the take the AVI files and convert them back into DVD standard 720x480 @29,97 frames per second, layer 2 audio 384 bit rate 48 hz. using Ulead Video Studio 7 after that has finished converting to Mpeg 2, I import the finished file into Ulead DVD workshop 2 were I setup chapters menu's etc. and test it to see what the finished DVD will look like (menu's)then burn it to a DVD-R. you can Download Stereo Movie Maker from this site http://www.stereoscopy.com/downloads/
you can find the other programs on the web buy using google, the Ulead Programs are not free but trials I purchased them of Ebay for cheap you can also use other programs like Cyberlink Power Director Pro 3 or Pinnacle Studio 7 or above'

I am here just to get even. I am not out money, just annoyed. I borrowed a slingshotdvd titled "Genesis" from the library and watched it. Fairly good elementary "how-the-earth-was-formed" plate tectonics educational video. Stuck the disk in my computer and it tried to automatically download software. I assumed slingshot promotional crap. I ejected disk. It flashed a message "Put disk in drive" There were two X buttons, one large red and the usual small black in corner, plus a cancel button. I also tried alt F4 and right clicking on lower bar to close. Nothing worked. It just beeped at me and reflashed message. I had to restart my computer.

And I completely agree with itsikw, if they claim they have converted 2D to 3D, they should have done it in a watchable manner. This company is simply hostile to its own consumers.
