I have just recently gotten into 3D stereoscopic glasses. I have a pair on order, and can’t wait to go back home (I am currently deployed to the middle east) to check them out. Problem is as of right now I only have two LCD screens. And since I gather from various post that it’s practically impossible to make shutter glasses work with flat panels as they exist now. Although when talking to a rep from edimisional he mentioned they were in the process of creating a solution for the polarization problem that is common with LCD screens. I was wondering what would be a good CRT monitor to look into buying. I don’t want to spend/waste too much money considering I already have 2 screens and I would only be getting another one to use with the shutter glasses I purchased. Any suggestions or info that could be of use to me would be greatly appreciated! |

Not sure why you posted your question in the "announce and discuss new products" section, but the main thing to look for is a high refresh rate because your shutterglasses effectively halve it. I use a 19 inch Iiyama Vision Master 451 which allows me to run at 120 Hertz at 1024 x 768 resolution. In theory it should be possible to push it to 144 Hz. But it will look huge if you are used to flat screens. Hope you have a big desk! |

Thanks! Iiyama Vision Masters sound like some good monitors, from the specs ive seen online. It is fairly big, maybe I'll go with the 17" version, although it would be nice if they came in black. Haven't made up my mind yet though. Any other suggestions??? Am I crazy for for buying a new monitor and video card just so that I can use some $100 3D glasses??? |

I got an old Samtron 95P+PLUS 19". Works just great. U can´t get more than 100 Hz at 1024x768 res with shutterglasses anyway. |

We use a number of different monitors in the Viewsonic "Professional Series" (model numbers starting with P). They all seem to work well. The best by far is the 21" P817 -- resolutions up to 1920x1440 or so -- if you are lucky enough to find one. |

I think just as immportant is ghosting. Which monitor has the fastest phosphors? |

Hi, I think, for 3d stereo better is bigger CRT becose had the higher refreshrate. From my sight best way for big CRT monitor is second hand.I have NEC CRT 21" (150 EUR), and the picture is wery good, refresh up 120Hz. Better, but no so cheap, is DLP projector with 85Hz refresh ( I have Benq PB 6240), picture is wery good, flicker minimally, absolutly no ghosting. The wired e-glasses have "reverted" (exchange of 2 active wires) becose projector had 1 frame delay. |

I would look around for a 20 or 21 inch used CRT monitor. Most of them will do 100 hz. You can get a real deal on them because most people are switching to the LCD flat panel screens. Also, the flicker is not bad on monitors running at 85hz. The new CRT monitors I have seen in stores only go up to 85hz. Mine is a 19 inch "Starlogic" that I bought from Office Depot (or was it Staples?) for $130 USD. It will only do 85hz but that works fine for me. I also have a Microtek M4 DLP projector that runs at 85hz. Works great with stereo video. I have 12 pair of wireless LCS glasses. Hddd |

The acceptability of visible flicker with shutter glasses is a highly personal matter. Most people will notice at least some flickering at any screen refresh rate less than 100. If that's personally acceptable to a viewer, fine. However, you can now find large cheap CRTs that will display at greater than 100 Hz at high screen resolutions (as noted in the posts above), so it's possible to avoid any screen flickering at all without spending a fortune. (The maximum practical refresh rate is determined solely by the capability of the monitor, not by the shutter glasses, which can synch properly at well above 150 Hz.) |

everyone should read this: http://pymol.sourceforge.net/stereo3d.html I just got myself a used P1130... and have it doing 1280x1024 at 140 hz (the exact res might be off, as I am at work). Now, I'm waiting for my glasses to arrive. |

I got my glasses and set up my CRT to do 1280x960 @ 120 Hz (it stopped accepting 140hz once I installed the stereo drives, but I didnt play around with it too much, as I was excited to get the glasses working). World of Warcraft is AMAZING in 3d. And even though I am used to 1920x1200 resolution on my notebook, the lower resolution does not decrease the quality at all because your brain is too busy interpolating 2 images to notice. It looks beautiful. |
