Yes hopefully. Looks like they also have stereo support as well on the agenda as per NVIDIA SLI FAQ on developer.nvidia.com. Everything re the SLI NVIDIA GeForce 6800 was just annouced yesterday.:)

SLI FAQ: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/sli_faq.html

In the FAQ they say that "stereo3D" is the perfect application, because in effect both GPUs will be at near 100% utilization compared to non stereo SLI mode. This is better than normal non stereo SLI due to logistics involved in keeping a optimal load-balance when two GPUs are rendering the divided screen. When rendering the L/R frames for stereo in tandem/parallel, they are highly likely to finish rendering both frames at the same time, hence go to the next frame, at 100% utilization with minimal stalling. More details can be found in SLI Chapter of the NVIDIA GPU programming guide:

http://developer.nvidia.com/object/gpu_programming_guide.html

This is much better than halving the performance of a single GPU stereo setup.

Hope for and am waiting for Opteron/Athlon64 based motherboards with dual 16X PCI-Express , since Xeon (what the current announced dual 16X PCI-Express boards are based on) is old old tech and would be redundant in 1-2 years time when 64 bit is widespread.

Hope the market demand will be kept high, like the ole' Voodoo2 days, so we can have a continual flow of full-performance dual-GPU stereo systems. And hope Linux driver support also will be updated, which they'll no doubt will do.

Thanks NVIDIA!

Abram

I just checked PCIE motherboard availability. Motherboards with dual PCIE slots are PCIE x1 instead of PCIE x16. Damn it.

Just a quick note, alienware may be throwing a boon to us all in the form of the x2 motherboard which is (I believe) AMD based w/ 2 PCI-E slots. Props to nvidia for being on the ball (as always). I'm also excited for a respectable surround gaming setup (eat dustbin parhelia).
