I just spoke to one of their people in the Netherlands who said they have been having some technical difficulty and that the product release has been pushed back to Q4 this year/Q1 next year. Unfortunate news, since I was really looking forward to the release of this product. At least they are still working on it and have not canned the project altogether. |

Any chance they said what kind of technical difficulties? Is it a problem with a supplier? Thanks |

He was pretty clear that it was design related. He mentioned chipset problems, so my guess is that they have their own driver unit to adapt resolutions outside of the native screen resolution of the display. They have to do some level of re-design on this aparently. |

That reasons is not serious. I am sure that real problem is bad quality of the OLED displays. |

Bad quality? Really? I had some collegues test out the displays in person at CES, and they said the display quality was very good. |

Haha, yes. Nothing like being able to see it yourself, but these guys are industry analysts for a top IT consulting firm. |

I've seen the OLED displays also. The device was a binocular setup with a built in intersense tracker. Colors were very vibrant and displays is very easy on the eyes, could play for hours on end. Also tried out the military monocular S-035 OLED that Rockwell Collins makes and the thermal imaging OLED monocular out of Total-Fire, very impressive. BTW, I thought there was no need for a chipset driver and that it was integrated as part of the CMOS substrate of the display. But as you say maybe there's some other format or video input type they are trying to port to the display that's not native. Should be interesting if they hit the market along side Daeyang's new offering. |

I have viewed the emagin OLEDs as well, and I have worked directly with them. I can say that the quality is very good as far as microdisplays go. We were very impressed. The emagin oled developers kit comes with a vga input which accepts mono and frame-interlaced stereo. Steve NVIS Inc. |

Yes, this is certainly the product I have been waiting for. It is just a shame that they hit this technical problem otherwise the HMDs would be available now. Remember though, this is not going to be the kind of VR like you see in the movies. Those people who have not seen or used a consumer HMD before should definitely get a demo of one before purchasing. However I can say, having used the old stereoscopic Sony LDI-100BE, that playing flight simulator on a headset like this with tracking is an amazing jump from gaming on a monitor or even large screen. Same goes for a lot of the FPS games. |

My only reason is indeed to play flight simulators,(Il2 sturmovik) My question is the expirience vith head-tracker to "scan the sky vith eagle eyes" or is it more like "leearing at the sky trough a keyhole" |

Kind of between the two to be honest. But for flight simulators the ability to look around, even though you don't have a complete 180 degree field of view, still makes the experience more realistic and immersive. Also, since you get stereoscopic vision that does add another level of immersiveness. First time I played with the Sony, I was blown away when I got into a Tiger Moth (old bi-plane), and how the wings and wires stood out from the background and made it really feel like I was 'in' the plane. If you get a chance, do try one out first though. |

So what do you think would be best if one was into flightsims? A projector which can deliver 3d( Benq or Infocus I guess) or some sort of HMD. I guess the x-viewer, I-Glasses or LeadTek would be in my price range. HMD(3d)+headtracker seems like a nice combination regardless FOV but a bigscreen with 3D would also be nice. Hmm what to do?? Thanx |

The x-viewer is a no show and the Leadtek has been pushed to next year so I guess that leaves the I-Glasses. A projector would give you a much bigger screen. Does the Infocus do 3d? |

Projector is cool, I have a 2d projector setup, but to be honest I think an HMD is the way to go for flight simulator. Don't know if you have ever flown in real-life, but being able to scan the skies by looking around is a good habit to get into. Having a non-movable screen can get you into bad habits. Also, it's very nice to be able to turn your head, tip your wing, and see where you are in relation to the runway if you are doing circuits. For my money, I will wait until the Leadtek is released. It's a pain that it is delayed, but all good things come to those who wait! |

Thanks for the input. I too have the notion of that a HMD with HT is the coolest solution. Too bad that we have to wait so long for HMDs that probably are not that good anyway. |
