Brand new field sequential release on DVD this week: IMAX Transitions "Developed by the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), the artistically-inspired and technologically-innovative film TRANSITIONS is available in 3D format. This historical piece was produced as the first ever IMAX 3D movie for the Canadian Pavilion at Vancouver’s EXPO ’86 and is now known as the ancestor of three-dimensional entertainment as we know it. It is therefore fitting that a special commemorative edition of TRANSITIONS is available for home viewing." Region free NTSC Currently only available through CyberWorld, Inc. http://www.cwonline.com/store/view_product.asp?Product=1253 *Please competitors do not spam up this thread with nonsense. Thank you! Please email if you are interested in distributing or retailing this DVD. Stewart Muirhead CyberWorld, Inc. |

Hints for future release: Add a track in full per eye (PAL or NTSC resolution). Progressive - for computer playback. E.g. DivX coded over/under. I know that TV visualisation based market rules, but degradating the movie by 24->29.9 FPS conversion + showing it at 1/2 NTSC pere eye is realy not good ... This is not a critic - this is just a hint how to make more people using computer playback happy and to have bigger market ! |

No critic here either ...But also Im with M.H. on releasing a version of the DVD in Over/Under format or (side by side) as already, Interlaced 3D is going to be unplayable on any flat screen display and EVEN on mordern Crt display. Even if you can turn off progressive scan on your DVD player, there's a whole new breed of crt TVs out there (JVC SONY etc) that have some or the other digital filtering to "enhance" an interlace display signal.. and thereby completely ruining the 3d info in an interlace signal. Cheers Clyde |

Is there any way that these DVDs can be played on passive projection? |

Yes, Stereoscopic Player can do the job. It supports both the NVIDIA Stereo Driver and quadbuffered OpenGL output. In addition, it features a dual screen output mode which works independently of any stereo driver. Just a graphic card with two VGA/DVI connectors is required in this case. http://mitglied.lycos.de/stereo3d |

I call "journey of man" next. Don't forget the space one. Oh, and the underwater one. Can't forget the flight one. And if you can snag a copy of Capt. EO that'd be pretty cool. John |

I had just seen the Sensio version of this DVD ... The movie had horrible big vertilca disalighnments ... This is not local disalighment, but complete shif of one eye view ... Easy to correct, but must be done for each shoot individualy becouse it differs ... Does the interlaced version show the same problems ? Why the hell they did not correct this during the DVD creation ... It is so obvious and so easy to correct ... :-( :-( :-( I donot like the idea correcting this myself shoot after shoot ... |

The interlaced version is not fine :-( I had finaly got access to the screenshot of the interlaced version ouput. The vertical prallax is clearly visible ! It is a global shift problem not only a local problem hard to compensate. Arrgh ... I will be forced to make the corrections myself scene after scene ... It will be interesting to know what is the source of this effects ... I do not belive the original source IMAX movie was so bad ... I like the Transition - lots of interesting 3D shoots, I am happy it was rleased at all, but this disalighments degradate the good stuff ... |

Wow. Ugly. We need to put the right people in the right place before 3D goes down the toilet. I have told people for three or four years how to correct this stuff, but either the right people are not reading what I write or they just ignore me. Bad choice :-) I noticed size differences between the left and right views of this movie, so the corrections are complex, but the important thing is they can be done! For Pete's sake, let's correct this stuff! It's not rocket science... you just need good tools (software). P. K. I had fixed it ... 2 days of work with video editing enviroment ... It was neccesary for each scene to make horiznotal and vertical shift ... For some scenes it was even neccesary to animate the correction - becouse it was neccesary to change them in dependenco on time ... It is a pitty I can not relese "Transionts M.H. purified" in a legal way for public :-) |

Maybe this is worth a new project for programming wizards like Peter Wimmer a program called Stereoscopic Corrector for sourceforge project perhaps that reads a ffdshow subtitle file that includes instead of subtitles vertical and horizontal parallax corrections at the appropiate time stamp, and lets you save the output or just view corrected 3d DVD on the fly to avoid copyright infringements. I could imagine it as a new feature added to future versions of Stereoscopic Player. |

A programmer's tool similar to Masuji's Stereoscopic Movie Maker would be highly desirable as a stereoscopic corrector subtitle file creator wizard. That you can locate parts of the dvd that need correcting and enables you to vertically and horizontally correct it and save the picked time stamp and corrections to your subtitle text file. |

I have the data in a form of Adobe Premiere project conatining internaly parameters for DepthQ Combine - our proprietary Premiere plugin able to do any stereo processing :-(. Hard to export ... According the suggestion above - it is hard to do the correction on the fly in 100% quality. Good conversion needs good interpolation - difficult to do on the fly. |

A better way to do this would be to use Adobe After Effects and just save the After Effects project. MH, what does your proprietary Premiere plugin do that After Effects can't? After Effects should be able to do all the necessary corrections without 3rd party filters or plugins. I understand Peters statement. Personally I don't feel like doing it either and it really should have been fixed before any kind of DVD release. The movie doesn't look that great to me anyway so I'm not going to bother buying it, let alone fixing it. |

Amen to Anonymous. It is doable with an AE project, and that can be saved. Hahaa! Good reply, Peter... it makes so much better sense to do this correctly the first time. Only a very small few of us are going to correct them, and I have never corrected an entire movie, because of the labor involved. It has just been for educational purposes, for me to see what they should have done the first time! The same sort of thing happened to most of the other field sequential NTSC releases that I have or have seen screenshots of. Also, the incorrect 3:2 pulldown and other things like incorrectly done stereoscopic frame blending messed those up. I can't even watch them. Some people have claimed they don't notice the problems, but I know what "perfect" 3D looks like, and I also know what a headache feels like ;-) P. K. Anonymosu: The Premiere plugin e.g. extends Premiere by OpenGL page flipping preview witch immediately shows the results of already done modifications = all 3D effects coudl be adjusted interactively. But you are right - all the corrections coudl be done in After Effect as well ... |
