in favor of a QVGA version. Serious gamers are out of luck with this one. My contact says the SVGA displays were too expensive and not available.

Why would anyone one favor qvga over svga. Well this just gives the Z800 more room to run then. The Z800 is the only decent HMD on the horizon.

Why would anyone favor QVGA over SVGA? Computer gaming is only a very small part of the market. Game consoles like Playstation and cell phones/PDAs have much lower resolution video output that QVGA suits nicely. But, I'd go for the Icuiti glasses because you can also get good DVD viewing on the VGA displays.

It's about economics. The market for SVGA HMDs is very small. If it were bigger, the price would be lower than $900. I would imagine they'll be able to sell less than a thousnad units at that price.

I have heard that the Icuiti glasses looks like a cheap piece of junk up close.

the icuiti's let too much light in and aren't immersive enough to enjoy a movie let alone a game. Do you work for Icuiti or something. get real.

"But, I'd go for the Icuiti glasses because you can also get good DVD viewing on the VGA displays."

You can't get 16:9 on those icuitis or play pal video until they add a converter.

I'll wait for the glasses with 1080i displays that can be used with future blue-ray DVD or HD DVD portaplayers.

I´d like to remind you that the pc gaming market today is bigger than the entire Hollywood film industry. And yes of course the VR HMD market is very small today. You know why? Because the HMD´s up til now has been pure crap. Let me also remind you that the cell phone industry was very small before the products got better in the mid-90´s. The VR HMD market for PC gaming got just as much potential as the cell phone industry in my opnion. Obviously, when you anticipate the future you have to brake free of prejudice and the boundries of today.

No HMD will be useful for PC gaming until it has a resolution of 1280x1024. VGA and SVGA resolutions are from the stone age.
