eMagin now accepting preorders for the Z800! http://www.emagin.com/3dvisor/html/order.htm I'm not gonna get shut out and it doesn't look to me like there will be any store availability initially at least. So - I'm on the list. Now , when can we expect the first delayed production announcement? Ha. I hope not. |

Cool company--they are looking for testers and evaluators "Potentially participating in the Product Evolution Program. I would make a great tester or evaluator of products because:" |

Looks like the 6800GT will come just in time. I thought I was going to have to put the ti4400 back in the main rig for this thing. John |

Since my company builds flight simulators for the US Navy, I hope my chances are good at getting an evaluation unit. |

At the time i signed up for a pre order, on that same form there was a tick box that said the following: Potentially participating in the Product Evolution Program. I would make a great tester or evaluator of products because: (and then i filled in some details here) If i was given the chance to be a evaluator and tester, do you know how long it will take for emagin to give me a Z800 for testing? Also I filled in all my details on the order page, including my address, did you all do the same? One other thing, i have heard that emagin are giving out their Z800 to OEM's so they can create there own customization. So i was thinking perhaps the first units directly from emagin wouldn't be so good, as from the pictures i don't see it being very immersive, it does not have an immersion visor to block out all light from the sides, and as it is going to have OEM customization i just thought maybe they will create the HMD into a helemt visor so all the light is blocked out for a more immersive experience, but of course cost may go up for this, what do you think on all this? |

What is the lifetime of the OLED panels used in the emagin z800? If degradation is so bad the colors are washed away after half a year or so, LCD might still be preferable. So I hope they survive more than that. |

aza - eMagin displays are filtered WOLEDs. So blue degradation wouldn't be an issue. lifetimes in some of their military specs for their displays show 10k+ hours. More than sufficient for a game visor I think. |

They just should do the next step and push real 1080p displays for upcomming PS-3 titles.. I think a biggest hit would be: --------------------- EMAGIN PS-3 ACTION SET 1080p HMD with integrated headtracking +largest possible FOV (90°) + cordless, tracked 'trigger-system' ( atachable toy-pistols, rifles or swords for the use with 1st person shooters/games;) + a PS-3 game that supports independed view & aiming/shooting & EMAGIN PS-3 RACING SET 1080p HMD with integrated headtracking + largest possible FOV (90°) + racing wheel + a PS_3 game that supports independed view & driving ----------------------- ..in this case they could sell such sets at 800.00-999.00$ retail price and the game-experiece would be 1000% worth the price! Just like: "Pay 999$ to be 'in the game' or stay out!" hehe;-P |

Thank you Anonymous, that was my only concern for such a HMD. Now I just hope there won't be much of a delay in production compared to the "launch date" and that supply can keep up with the demand I will likely get one if it is as good as advertised! |

Thanks for the gamers out there who are making it possible for this advanced technology to be economic for manufacturesrs to make for us. I would like to see the emagin unit be a huge success because three dimensional viewing technology has sofar just not captured the public. Without seeing the unit, I believe people will be wanting a higher resolution monitor, of say 1600x768 pixels. For the 80 degree claimed field of view that will be 80 pixels per degree of horizontal resolution. I have preordered my 3Dvisor. How soon after release will they be sold on Ebay I wonder. |

I agree with your comments but I think you mean 20 pixels per degree (not 80 although that would be nice). |

My calculations of 52 inches screen half-width at 144 inches screen distance gives 20 degrees. The total horizontal field of view is 40 degrees. For 800 horizontal pixels thats 20 pixels per degree. |

If you want to get an idea of what 800 pixels to 40 degrees is like, you could try playing a game sitting in front of your monitor about 275% of half it's width (or width*1.4). It doesn't bother me, I could even get closer, but then I am near sited and I have been playing games since they were 320x200 :P. |

barry your calculations are off because they say "105 inch diagonal movie screen viewed at 12 feet". Given that the screen has a 4:3 ratio (non-widescreen), that is a horizontal screen width of (0.8*105) 84 inchs and a half screen width of 42 inches. The horizontal field of view in truth is 32.5, not 40. Which is 24 pixels per degree. If you want to imagine what that is actually like, sit with a distance of 1.71*[horizontal width of screen]. |

sounds to me like instead of seeing a giant screen in front of you it'll feel more like walking around with a carboard box on your head.. ?? granted the only "HMD" I"ve used was a nintendo VirtualBoy :-p oh.. and I did play "Dactyl Nightmare" about 14 years ago :p |

The future may be bleak for eMagin. http://biz.yahoo.com/e/050415/ema10ksb.html I hope that they can pull through, Kodak is getting more involved in OLEDs, and after all, E3 is only a month away. It seems as though they won't be able to manufacture in a big enough volume though to generate positive cash flow. I guess we will have to wait for E3 to see. Something interesting to note though, it seems they have already shipped some prototypes out. Wonder who the lucky b*stards are .... |

If for i-glasses 70 inch at 13 feet = 26 FOV, z800, wich is 105 at 12 feet, should be about 42 FOV. Pretty good if you ask me! |

If you are sitting 0,5 meter from the monitor, the equivelant screensize of the Z800 should be about 16 inches. Remember that most monitors are 1 inch less than the specs says. That meens the screen of the Z800 should be close to the size of a 19 inch monitor. |
