Salutations to fellow Stereophiles, I am involved and interested in current and future applications for stereoscopic televideo media. Originally, I favoured stereo-photography, using (binocular) camera arrangements that allowed 3D preview. Some results were better than expected, so, with some prompting, I transferred my attentions to television. Since 1988 I have developed various methods and systems to best utilise the current format. (started with Betacord and beamsplitters, and now have dual-DVCAM heads and DLP projection) The situation now is, that although I have an absolute state-of-the-art capture mechanism and can process (real-time) 3D content direct to HDD or DVD for storage or delivery, and further, that I have a 3200x2400 resolution digital stereo-theatre for display purposes, I still have very few clients and little commercial response. This is inexplicably frustrating, given the amount of press the so-called 3D media industry generates. The qouted "future of television" is stereoscopic 3D, according to most reports, yet none of the "hype" ever seems to lead anywhere. Imagine this, a real-world, real-time 3DTV system with on-line processing and digital store/display. No compromise of image quality, and future proof in that it will apply to HDTV and UHDTV formats. I have used this system in-house for three years! Peer group response, ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. |
