thx vrjunkie I've been on their web site but couldn't find it. Is it in their standard portfolio or made you a special order? How long do they need to ship the cable? stefan |

Dear Mr vrjunkie can you help me I have a vfx1 funning on win 95 the lcds work and the puck works but the head tracking dose not, when I first got it it did go. after getting the manual all it said was to check the cable which i did with a meter all good ,running the vfx.com-z tracker on 2 puck on 4 windows control pannel /joystick says ok but i think this is just detecting the vip card is there some way of testing the tracking or is there fault finding program please help |

Paul, Try making a DOS 5 boot disk, and place the DOS drivers on it - then run the diagnostics. This should simplify things greatly, by removing a slew of possible conflicts, and let you know if the unit is working ok. -VRJUNKIE |

Paul, Are you in the US? I could send you a boot disk to trouble shoot... if not, could you post the contents of your autoexec.bat and config.sys files from your DOS boot disk? -VRJUNKIE |

Paul, It looks like your autoexec.bat is ok - maybe... I have my boot disk with the following (essentially same) line in my autoexec.bat: SET VIPPORT=2C0 I7 I call vfx1.com manually. What happens when you run VFX1diag.exe? You mentioned "viewport", I hope you mean "VIPPORT", that is the port for the VIP card to use for communication with your computer. The hardware setting on the card and the software variable VIPPORT setting MUST MATCH EXACTLY. I can't remember how the hardware port is set, well, I know it's a jumper, but I don't remember if having no jumper will result in no port set - or a default set - so check your hardware to see what it says. Running the software variable setting thru all 4 settings will theoretically "catch" the one the card is set too - but this alone will not solve anything if there is a conflict with either the port or interrupt setting that the card is configured to use... IOW, you can cycle the variable, but if the hardware has a problem, it will never work. So, to rule out a conflict, run the card and the variable to each setting to see in any of them will work. If this does not work, I have seen your problem when the card is not fully seated. When you tighten the screw on the riser card that holds the vip card down, on some of them, it makes the front of the card raise slightly - enough to break it's connection to the ISA port on your motherboard - so check for this too. Other possibilities would be the cable or pins that go from the card to your headset. Make sure there are NO broken, missing, or bent pins. You can "ohm it out" with a VOM... all pins are straight through, so pin 1 goes to pin 1, 2-2, etc. If none of this solves your problem I would guess that you have a bad VIP card, you could try to get one via e-bay. Good luck, -VRJUNKIE |
