3001 AD develop VR rides AND HMD's for theme parks but they are going to release a consumer HMD which is the same version that has been used in their themeparks. They said it would be affordable, but when i read the technical specs it did not seem so interesting, they say it's 42 inch screen size and light weight, with a dolby digital 2.0 sound for an immersive sound experience. check it out here:http://www.3001ad.com/homeentertainment.cfm and here are limited specs: http://www.3001ad.com/VRstar_Head_Mounted_Display.cfm Also do you remember that roller coaster shareware game that was relased a few years ago called Ultra Coaster on the PC. Well i bought it and loved making tracks as it was so easy, well 3001 ad have now developed a ride for themeparks it is very small and can fit in tight spaces. They say, you lock your self into a seat inside a cabinet and you put on a HMD and it is a motion simulator running a Nvidia graphics card with 6 tracks from the game. I am not sure if this simulator goes upside down. I am going to write to them and find out, as i very much like the idea of this. I remember going on something very smiliar to this about 5 years a go at Dinsey Quest. It's a 8 storey high virtual reality themepark near Disneyland in Florida. The ride was really cool, it would go upside down, but you would view a screen instead of a HMD. But it was a different kind of game where you could develop a track on the fly. I made a track but as the ride is a 2 seater the kid i was sitting with i ended up riding his track which was pretty awesome. He was like really happy that i said we could go with his track. Oh and check this new ride out which is the game table featured in the movie "Lawnmower Man". http://www.3001ad.com/Merc_Racer_3000.cfm specs here: http://www.3001ad.com/Merc_Racer_3000.cfm?c=v&n=12&t=t |

I saw this at e3, it was playing some world war 2 game. It was cool, or at least it was better then my svga i-glasses. It was comfortable to wear, although taking it on and off was kind of ruff on my glasses. The displays kind of bothered me, in that your eye position made a difference in how bright it was, but given that it was easy to reposition the unit on your head and it was comfortable to wear I don't think it was a big deal. The head tracking was nice, there was a noticable lag, but I think it is tolerable. I probably should have asked what the price point is for it =P. |

Also, there setup for that ww2 game was kind of bad. The controller for the game was a gun, they should have just had a regular controller, because the gun didn't track and it literarily was being used like a gun shaped game controller, that had a d-pad and buttons and a trigger. |
