As part of my job I get to review technologies that may be marketed to a slightly different audience then some others. Today (and tomorrow) I got to see a new Sanyo LCD display designed to fit a car dashboard. Yes, they had cost figures. No, I can't tell you what they were, but that are inline with what we would pay for a premimum dash navigation system (and yes we mark it up several fold... it isn't anyware near the thousands to the OEM). Yes, it does far more than just a map. The display was about 9", and had more sweet spots than any I have personally observed before. I suppose that they HAD to do that so the both front seat passengers get to see 3D at normal positions; remember those positions are way off axis for something in the middle of the dash. Really quite impressive, and viewable in direct sunlight as well. Too bad I can't buy one for myself. |

Almost forgot the biggest 'sell' feature; for the first time the right passenger in a car can watch TV or DVD while the driver gets just the map display (in 2D), which will probably be what drives this onto a dash near you. I still won't tell what is costs, just that it doesn't even quite double the cost of an LCD ondash display of the same size. Very sweet. |

i know Sanyo was working on a autostereoscopic display in the late 90s. thay put millions into developing it but it had only one small "sweet spot" for the 3d effect. i got to see it and was very dissapointed with it. i herd later they had given up on it. i did get to see the SpatialView autostereoscopic 27 inch display at E3.....it was quite impressive, best autostereoscopic system i have seen, way ahead of anything else i have seen. they plan to have them for sale in the latter part of 05 or early 06 |

The french Alioscopy autostereoscopic system works and sells well in France already. Great for multiviewers without constraints of positioning. Up to now, it is used mainly in salons and museum exhibitions. www.alioscopy.com |
