Well I molded my Z800 into my Helmet today and I'll wait untill it's good and dry to trim away the extra. I'll try and post some pic's when final if anyone is interested. Ku |

yeah, give us a look. Is that a VFX1 helmet you're talking about? And does it still let you tweak eyepiece positions etc...? |

Yeah Mad, it is the VFX1. The cool thing about this is using the stuff called "GREAT STUFF" Insulating foam sealant. I put a piece of velcro in the shell and on the glasses, then slit a siplock sandwich bag over the glasses so the velcro would just touch the glasses but the plastic covers the glasses so the foam doesn't touch them directly. Takes time to position them to where they will fit against your eyes. Spray the foam around and wait like 15min for it to build up, holding the glasses for alittle bit. After an hour the foam is pretty tight and it says to let it sit for 8 hours, so today I will cut the foam where it overfilled. But that is the cool thing about it, you can trim it real easy with a blade. Now some Neg- might be that once it's in and you want it out your gonna have to cut all the foam but I hope having the plastic around it, it might come out alittle easier. Tonight I will put some Pic's on if I can get the Res down low enough to put them on the site. Oh Mad, to answer your question about eyepiec positioning, cutting the foam will fix that. Ltr'z Ku |

what about overheating?? |
Ku

Overheating! I've used this for awhile and found no heating to what you might think, plus with the foam being filled with lots of airpockets I dout this will cause a prob, but time will tell. I've trimmed the foam alittle and tried to move the eyepieces which moved find. With it being sturdy they move pretty easy. Pictures will be taken this coming weekend as work has me in Maine for the week.. Till then.............. |

Ok it fit, now this was done without cutting and trimming the plastic off. Seeing it's my first try I wasn't sure how much foam to spray but extra doesn't hurt as it's easy to cut away.. As of now I cut the bottom out under the lens and alittle on the sides for the eyepieces to move. The back was trimmed alittle also. Still it is solid, no wiggle unless Xtreme force taken! Ok nite all take next Fri..... |

Ku: inventive...so, how do you like your new visor? Did you have to do any damage to the original visor chassis? BTW, Great Stuff comes in a red can and a black can...I guess the foam from one expands more than the other. Which did you use. |

Been in Maine, just got back.. Im gonna do some more work tonight and play around with it and add better pic's.. Hack job, untill you see how well this stuff works, you wouldn't say that when you've tried it. Trimming the foam is whats left. Anyone worried about not getting the glasses out if you didn't like, don't worry because like I said, it's foam and can be cut very easy to take out. This weekend I'll setup the wires to the VFX1's headphones and hide the cable.. Be back later.. Stew, Im all out of VFX1's Should of kept the 2 I had last winter. I need more. Someone will mold them for me for $140 each but that comes without the headphones and some sanding so I guess Im better off buying the helmet. E-mail me with what you have,,! kuchelsea35@yahoo.com |

Ku, were the optics easy to remove without doing anything that might void your warantee? |

Finished up around the Z800, only thing left is hooking up the headphones. Im not sure how I want to do this just yet! Rob- I only removed the forehead piece, ofcourse im biting the bullet with voiding the warranty if that is considered voiding. Well I found the cover that came with the VFX1 to begin with and just cut around it. Underneith I used Presto felt. It forms better when making it stick to the foam. So that's it, my VFZ800. Let the BAshing begin LOL.. LTR'z Ku |

It's what you wouldn't mind paying if this is how the Z800 came in the first place. With the small flaws in res and small Fov, with it blocking the outside light and sounds, this Im happy with. Now you have an easier way to bring the lens closer to your eyes and not having a mark on your forehead. More immersive I think. Thats all!!! |

small FOV? i have the vfx3d and it only has a 24 deg FOV and i thought THAT was immersive. After seeing your mod I think im finally gonna break down and get one |

Tnx, Kev, Mopheta- Im comparing to the Better HMD's it's small. Your right though the fov isn't that bad. I thought the VFX3d was like 35 deg FOV, should be close. Isn't it ashame, when they do have the FOV and Res down in price we will be too old or our eye's will suck. Makes me sad only the rich get to have sooo much fun. I'd like to see a better way of keeping the glasses in the shell, I hope some others do some mods. Rob do you use your VFX3D at all? Be a shame to chop it up. Mike |
