I want this thread to be a place to post about how well games look and play on the Z800. I know there is a Games area on this website but it does not get used much. I thought Z800 people would find this thread and use it if I put it here. If the Mod needs to move this thread I understand. I don't have a Z800 yet so I would like to put up two games for review by those of you that do have the Z800. Two games that I would like to try most with a Z800 are Half Life 2 and Deus Ex(The first one). I know Deus Ex is an old game but I just have a feeling or hunch that Z800+Deus Ex will = pure gamer heaven. So if you have or can get Deus Ex, please try it and give me your thought's. So start posting about any and all games you have played with the Z800.. |

Ok, have dug out the DeusEx demo. It works reasonably well with the Z800 in 3d stereo mode (+Geforce6600GT, driver 7.8.0.1), with some minor graphical glitches such as light flares appearing as flat decals. In 800x600 32bit mode, I found I had to turn off antialiasing and high quality textures to get acceptable framerates when there were on-screen menus (turned into a slideshow). Have had this trouble with other older games - possibly a DirectX issue? Headtracking works well, although I usually use the mouse for these kind of games for control. Went to load up HL2, but had a crash. Normally, with every other game I own, I have a crash (which happens in Windows doesn't it?), I just restart the game. But not with Steam, oh no. Instead I have to revalidate the bloody thing on-line. Get lost Valve. Have been playing through Painkiller in 3d and it's been great fun. The levels have long draw distances, imposing architecture and are generally well lit and textured (I find the screen grain becomes noticeable in very light/very dark environments). Standing on top of a crane in the docks level was vertigo inducing and it was kind of scary seeing the big demon bosses approaching. Really enjoyed this game in 3d. |

madjack, Thank You very much. I think the problem with Deus Ex is that when it came out it had Bad Bad Bad frame rate problems with DirectX video cards. It uses the old Unreal engine so it worked best on 3DFX Voodoo cards until they made a patch for the game to fix the DirectX problem. So to test this game right you need the full Ver. of the game and the patch. You can't apply the patch to the demo so it's not a good way to test the game. madjack Thank you very much for going through the trouble of dowloading the demo and testing it for me that was nice of you, Thanks again for the help and your input to the thread. So anyone with the full Ver. and the patch give it a go if you can. |

Live for Speed! It looks amazing on the Z800. I have tried Half life 2 and that looks really good but I couldn't get the crosshair to work. Microsoft flight simulator looks great with the virtual cockpit on. try the piper! My setup isn't quite good enough for pacific fighters to run well as you have to have the landscape detail set to perfect to get the 3d to work properly. Dave |

What I would really like is a game like the old Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D. Where you get to fly through great landscapes and shoot at stuff! Why do they make all the flight sims so dull?!! |

Man, I really envy you guys with your $800 to throw down on one of these babies. Is the consensous that at long last we actually have a HMD available that doesn't dissapoint and offers true immersion without a long list of drawbacks? I have eD shutterglasses at the moment (I know, poor me - great glasses but not quite an HMD ;) ). What I would like to know is more about the "feel" than the technical/graphical pros and cons. Ie, even in 3D on shutter glasses you CAN feel really "In the game" and the stereo is great. Of course these HMDS should be a whole lot better while allowing head tracking, full immersion etc. Do you see parts of the inside of the device or is this blanked out completely by the visuals - even if only subconciously? Given the choice, would you buy one again or wait for something better? and would you be prepared to pay MORE than you did (because it is that good?). thanks |

'Is the consensous that at long last we actually have a HMD available that doesn't dissapoint and offers true immersion without a long list of drawbacks? ' Not quite - check the other forums to garner a more balanced view of the Z800. 'What I would like to know is more about the "feel" than the technical/graphical pros and cons' Well, scull a glass of red wine, turn off the lights, put on a good FPS and your 'elmet and it's a lot of fun. It's better than my 19" monitor at least and I usually finish a VR session with the feeling that I've had good fun. However due to the screen size, graininess, focus issues, peripheral vision, the pressure of the thing on your forehead, I never quite feel 'in the game' - fully immersed so to speak. 'Given the choice, would you buy one again or wait for something better? and would you be prepared to pay MORE than you did (because it is that good?).' I think I would buy one again, given I haven't heard of anything better being on the way. I would not be prepared to pay more than I did. $900USD was at the outer limits of what is essentially a frivolous purchase. |

You are right I have just installed Deus Ex-Game of The Year Edition and it works perfectly in 3D if you use Direct3D mode. The game is old so the graphics are not up to today's standard but even that everything looks brilliant in 3D. Even though the game has sound to go with the text subtitles you would have no problem reading the blue text in 3D. Half-Life 2(make sure you update your steam engine to the latest build) also works flawlessly in 3D. The graphics in HL2 is truly stunning with everything seems so real and details. The z800 just making walking around and playing so effortlessly. You just have to see it to believe it with your own eyes. I have Geforce 7800 GTX with Forceware 78.01 and I have no problem in Stereo 3D mode. |

Akemi, Thank's for testing the two games for me. I thought Deus Ex would be good not so much because of the graphics which are older but because of the full package the game has, I thought with the Z800 + Deus EX you would feel like you are realy stepping into the Deus Ex world. It sounds like that is true with HL2, which I also had a feeling it would. Keep the reviews coming and if you own another HMD like the I-glasses or Icuiti V920 or soon to be DV920, post how they do with games. |

Can a Mod or whoever runs this site put a stop to this? Looks like my thread will be run over by this CyWorld VR-Realitys back and forth Crap...Thanks alot |

Akemi is definately not Steward. She is a strong believer in eMagin's tech and a shareholder. However, you can trust her observations re the Z800. She has always been upfront with the good and bad. This water2 imposter is bringing to this site the kind of nonsense one sees on the Yahoo financial boards. |

Just because you will not be allowed to sell the product doesn't mean you have to go around causing trouble and being a jack ass. You did the same thing with Stephan Glaser at icuiti a while back and now he doesn't post here anymore. Just stop already PLEASE. Your games are getting tired. |

Getting back to games - tried the FEAR demo with the Z800 the other day. Works in stereo, unfortunately I find I have to turn off alot of options to get a playable framerate - guess this is due to the pc having to render twice the number of frames. |

I think System Shock 2 does. I bet that would be a great game with the Z800. Seems like another game that would let you step into its world. Someone should try it and post a review. |

Underworld 1 and 2 do not work through DirextX (or OpenGL), because DX did not exist when they were programmed. SS1 does not use DX either so probably not, but I remember they had a mode for an old headset (VFX1?). I have not tried yet but I think I have a SS1 cd somewhere so maybe sometime. SS2 indeed uses DX (or OpenGL?) so it should work. |

Hi all. Just tried the Myst5 demo with the Z800. Works well in stereo3d, (apart from the crosshair appearing double, but that's not a game killer). The two worlds in the demo (a tall 'forest' and a small island), really stand out as exotic and realistic. I usually bump up the separation value a little from the default and I spent some time just walking around admiring the view. Just unfortunate that it's not my kind of game. Also loaded up Psychonauts. Great game but they've used a bloom filter which, along with the sky, appear closer than the landscape(!), making the game essentially unplayable in stereo. My biggest hope now is that Morrowindblivion will be playable in stereo. |

Crosshair is removable, you can play in 640x480, and you can be in 3rd person view when in vehicle or 1st person and driving around is using the mouse, I haven't tested the tracking but I will do so, I only checked the 3d and walking around... Ku |

I need advice. Is somebody using the z800 as his/her only display? I have a problem, when starting a just installed game, despite i have my desktop in windows set on 800x600 - 85hz, it changes to the default resolution the game has, so i get a black out on the z800. So i'm forced to conect a crt monitor, start the game, change the resolution on the option-video-etc... menu on the game, disconect the monitor, conect the z800 and start playing. Is there a way to force games to start directly on 800x600 without have to mess with this put-quit monitor problem? Thanks a lot, people. |

Jorge, I don't know the answer to your specific question...but until you get that answer, why don't you leave the CRT monitor connected to the z800 Controller's VGA pass-through port, instead of going to the trouble of reconnecting / disconnecting it every time you start a game? If the light from the monitor bothers you while using the z800 display, you can turn the monitor off without physically disconnecting it. |

Thanks for your answer, Anonymous. The main problem happens when i start for the first time a new installed game. Once i put the resolution on 800x600 on the game settings, it always will use that res. so I no longer need the monitor for that specific game. The point on quit-put the monitor is because i have attached the box of the z800 in a high and non static place (to the arm of a pneumatic rock n ride chair) and is not safe to do it that way, so i must conect it to the video card directly. And another problem, with my setup, it is very uncomfortable to have the crt monitor conected (i have no table to put it on, so i have to keep it on the ground, and i sometimes play stand up, so i can crash with it) That are the main reasons i need to get ride of the monitor and use the z800 as my only display. Nobody uses it this way? Thanks! |

Ku, NICE picture. That is a really clean solution to an VR setup, in my case i have to mess with more cables, but i prefer more sound quality (i have a medusa 5.1 headset) and independient move controler (a ciberstick mid air joystick) Plus i have an aura interactor vest for shocking experience! The only think i miss is a trigger and transducer on the joystick for a xbox-style shooting feeling... but due to the nature of the joystick, im sure each time i shoot i will be moved against my will because of the vibrations! I have suspended the cables (tied inside a foam tube to protect them) from the ceiling with wharf? and hoop? to allow me to spin around myself's axis up to three or four times until i start feeling tenseness and i have to "undone" the spins, but it usually doesnt happens. I'll try to post a photo as soon as posible. I would prefer a "real" gun to use as in your setup, but having to recenter the point of view each time i use the gun to have it coincident with the real position of my head, sounds too uncomfortable, plus each time you move the crosshair? to aim, the point of view moves independently of you head, so it could cause sickness or vertigo? What are you personal feeling about this "theorethical??" issues? |

It´s cool, Ku. However, now we see the importance of people making thorough reviews of how games work in 3D. For me water in JO is a big letdown. In some games it´s the sky that is ruining things, and yet others there are elements such as explosions and smoke, or elements in the HUD. |
